!!!HELP!!! Live6 in interminable loop on boot up!!

Post by Suede Subway » Mon Dec 11, 2006 8:47 am

Hi

Up to yesterday everything was going well. I was working on both Live and Cubase - switching between programs. I worked something out in Cubase + Halion as VST and, because it was simple, decided to emulate it in Live i.e. rather than saving my work and importing it - just decided to open the bank and start from scratch. Here my problems begain.

I opened Live and opened an instance of Halion from the plug ins, and created a track. I then loaded a soundbank into Halion. At this point I started getting an error code - something like "some of the audio files annot be found use search from the context menu (I'm on a PC). Bearing in mind Halion worked fine in Cubase, I thought this odd. But I couldn't get a squeak out of it, even tho the signal was present i.e. I could see a midi input.

The VST folder is on C:\programs\steinberg\VST; Live's Library is on D:\Ableton\Live6\Library. So I tried making Live search for the *.vsb files - no avail.

I decided to check - went back to Cubase, opened up a project/halion/sample bank - no problem.

Went back to Live and it won't load. It gets to the point were it's scanning the VSTs and won't go beyond that. The only way out is to CTRL+ALT+DELETE.

Help please.

Thanks
Ian

Response from Ableton Support - I am impressed...

....with the speed of response.

"Hello,

Try resetting the Preferences by deleting the preferences.cfg file from that location:

C:/Documents and Settings/your user name/Application Data/Ableton/Live/Preferences

Kind regards,

This worked.

I've identified what started all this - is that my system gets in the aforementioned loop when implementing a rescan of my plug-ins.

Anyone any thoughts on this or is it Live6 bug?

Cheers
Ian

The usual method is to remove all the plugins, and re-introduce them in small groups in order to find the offending ones.

Then send an email to Ableton to make sure they know which plugins you have problems with.
