M-Audio Ozonic + Live6 = problems

Post by olo23 » Tue Dec 12, 2006 5:42 pm

I am running a new 17" macbookpro with an m-audio Ozonic and Live6. If I let Live use the mac's built-in audio outs it works great. However it seems to be having lots of trouble when trying to use the audio out/in's of the ozonic. All sound stops (though the transport doesn't) and the computer slows to a crawl. I still see the meters in Live showing green, a signal is apparently going out to the ozonic, but nothing is heard.

I get overall flaky behaviour from the ozonic aside from that, I can hear the audio ins sometimes, not other times. I made sure channels 1&2 of the ozonic's out were working by plugging a mic into the audio in of the ozonic and routing out 1&2 out, so I know it can put sound out, but Live just isn't happy with it. The midi side is also not solid, sometimes it sees the ozonic control surface, other times it does not.

I suspect this is more a problem with the ozonic than Live, because Reason is also very unhappy with the ozonic, and Live works fine using built-in outs, but I thought I'd ask if anyone here also uses the ozonic with an Intel macbookpro to see if anyone has any tips on how to fix this.

Previously I tried using an ozonic with a G4 iBook and also had nothing but problems, so I think this all boils down to a crappy piece of gear/drivers, but m-audio assured me the ozonic would work with intel macs...

Not sure what causes your problems,
but wich driver and Os-x do you use?
I'm on 10.4.8 and it wouldn't recognize my ozonic at all with the latest stable driver, 1.7.x.
Check at the m-audio site the driver update,
check the show beta releases box at the top to get the latest release.
When I installed the 1.8.1 beta driver, the firmware got an update when first time connected.
Now it works great.
Perhaps your firmware is corrupted.
Good luck!

I discovered how to reproduce the problem and it seems to be a bug in the m-audio driver.

The ozonic works fine, unless you plug a firewire800 device into your Mac. as soon as I plug in my LaCie drive the ozonic's audio stops and the midi is no longer seen by CoreAudio. Only a total reboot of the CPU brings the ozonic back.

Same behaviour in both Live and Reason.

...letting m-audio know about this now.
