I never said you have to go make your own, never even tried to debate whether making your own was better or worse than using sample libraries. he said in a nutshell that making your own means your time is worthless and I was commenting on that statement.anti-banausic wrote:I don't know what you guys are on about. This is so arcane. It reminds me of the discussion about using samples at all.....even for drum hits....some people are so arrogant.
If you don't make your own waveforms you aren't doing real sound design. Well, go code your own f@%^ing DAW then.
How different is it then dialing up a square or saw on a synth to make a nice bass sound? Besides, these can be looped, layered, it really isn't that different than having a bunch of oscillators. Ok, so perhaps not as tweakable with FM and additive, but geez.....really.....they are a nice tool. And they do save a bunch of time, and I bet you probably could make pretty unique sounds with them...
my .02
good source of huge variety of sampler oscillator waveforms

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.
I just tried the Demo and the waveforms are nice, 24-bit and sound good. Some give strange results in Sampler and such. I particularly like importing them into Sytrus. I imagine they will work just as well in Z3ta, Zebra, or any synth that has a single-cycle wav import feature.
I personally don't need 1800 waveforms...I have collected many hundreds of waves for free. But it is a lot of work, and if I was just starting out, I'd think $30 is worth the work that goes into creating and cutting 1800 single-cycle waves.

I make music for many years now, mostly hardware synthesizers but am just starting with short samples in Ableton Sampler and i'm realy thinking about getting this library.nebulae wrote:...

Live 6.0.3 Win XP sp2, P4 2.8 GHz, 1 GB, UXGA video, RME Multiface (1), Nord Lead 3, Korg X5D, TR-Rack, ER-1, Roland Juno 106, JV-2080, Elektron Machinedrum-UW, SidStation, SPL Charisma, Soundtracs CP6800 (40/12/24), Genelec 1030A, Furutech TP80, etc.
sampler can turn a one cycle wave into a killer synth.. really..FrankH wrote:I make music for many years now, mostly hardware synthesizers but am just starting with short samples in Ableton Sampler and i'm realy thinking about getting this library.
also try to cut some cycles from earlier hardware recordings..
you have a whole library on your HD!
Just use what's already there..
I have experienced the power of sampler already and I like it very much by now. Just looking if this library could give me some extra source material to tinker with.Poster wrote:sampler can turn a one cycle wave into a killer synth.. really..

I guess what I wanted to say is that those waves don't have to be that very special..FrankH wrote:I have experienced the power of sampler already and I like it very much by now. But ofcourse that 1800 wave libray is a welcome addition..

the naysayers don't get itkuniklo wrote:Some of them really get interesting when you start adding a little FM to them in Sampler.jackmazzotti wrote:i just played with the demo waves in simpler
i am totaly sold!
thanks for bringing this to my attention
aparently this guy is a metasynth guru
and has a metasynth module that looks sick
i am getting the abysnth waveform pack too!
this is very exciting stuff for the synth heads
this is almost as good as my ufo posts
I'm in agreement with your thinking here. I just bought the waveforms myself....$30 seems like a fair price to me, for 1800 wavetables to use! I love sound design, and very rarely use outside loops, samples, presets, but I'm not interested in re-inventing the wheel either. Every artist has to decide how DIY they want to get....my time is not inifinte and I'd rather focus on writing music, not creating my own wavetables to satisfy my own ego.kuniklo wrote: Your time is worthless if you think that generating your own Sampler waveforms from scratch with Operator means that you're getting unlimited waveforms for "free".
To me these are basic building blocks of sound design. I know how to create these, I understand the math, and I understand the synthesis techniques...but why waste my own time creating them? $30....thats a little over an hour's pay for me....how many hours would it take me to create 1800 wavetables?
I like em' !
Of course, I also loved the spectrum/digital 1 cycle waves from Ableton, just put a little filter & delay & arp & chord together with simpler to make some cool retro digital synth sounds!
Not sure if I'll come up with the cash, but I do like it alot!
