Some of my chilled tracks

Post by mook@skewer » Mon Dec 18, 2006 6:50 pm

Okay, so my other entries on MySpace didn't raise much interest, not to worry

Have uploaded four of my better chillout tracks. All made in Live 6 with a combination of samples and Live's instruments. If you're not keen on MySpace they're also on my own site - linked in sig.

Hope you enjoy and let me know your feedback :)

Rule Of Plum - Liked the beats a lot, the melody pad killed it for me. Melody was fine, the sound itself just got a little repetitive and grating after awhile.

Cerulian Muse - I like the vibe in this tune, laid back and funky. Overall I thought the mix sounded a bit clouded, kinda dull. But it adds to the vibe in this case, so maybe that was intentional. Good tune though, if the mixdown was a tad better I'd happily play it out in my sets.

Souk - The chord comp sound in this one doesn't do it for me. Again, the notes are fine, the sound itself though sounds really cheap and dated. Otherwise cool tune. There's a few flubbed notes that jump out, but to be honest I prefer that to overly rigid stuff.

Turmoil Off - Nice and atmospheric, not to say about it. The reverb on that one hit was a little much, but it'sa minor crit.

Tarekith > Thanks for the reply, useful input :)

Rule Of Plum - I know what you're saying, could use a little work on that. I have a chum at work who reckoned it needed a 'few more notes' :o

Cerulian Muse - I was limited a touch on this one as it was mostly samples that I couldn't sharpen up too much. It does sound a little like it needs the tea towel taking off the speakers *lol*. I'm reasonably happy with it though.

Souk - I'll have another play with this one as I'm not 100% on it, there's a bit too much phaser on the pad and it sounds similar to CM in the sense it's a bit cloudy.

Turmoil Off - I added the reverb to the hit to give it a little more atmosphere, though it may be a touch high. I do knock it up a notch on the last one to play the fade out though.

Cheers 8)

Have worked on Rule Of Plum and amended it for a bit more zip. Toned down the pad so it's a bit more in the background, changed the instrument settings on the chord midi that goes with the main key, changed the bassline for something a little more tuneful and altered the second 'verse' to include a slightly jazzier piano loop.

Has a slightly more uplifting feel to it now with a sound, oddly enough, similar to some of Erasure's older work

Probably take a while for MySpace to catch up but have put it on my own site aswell - http://skewer.co.uk/audio :)

Hope you guys are looking forward to the New Year and chillin' out while you're at it :)

Finished my latest track, called The One. It's my tribute to The Matrix. Did a lot more work on this one than some of the others. Getting the lead right and matching in chords and bass took some stumbling over before getting it sorted.

Then came the fun of sorting the movie sound clips. Found some stuff on the net but the quality was so poor it wasn't worth it. Ended up getting hold of ImTOO DVD Ripper Platinum 4 which was perfect for ripping my DVD into high quality stereo wav, then played with them in Audacity 1.2.6 to get the bits I wanted and sort the levels and so forth.

It's up on myspace or on my own site here - http://skewer.co.uk/audio . Take a listen, enjoy, and let me know what you reckon.

Happy New Year Image

Try using yasa dvd audio ripper to convert dvd movie wav or mp3 with high quality. I always use it.
