Animating device ON/OFF directly possible?

If I have some devices in my rack, I can't directly animate the on/off-button state, but I must assign them to macro controls and then animate those controls.

you can automate the device on/off in the arrangement view, but not in session clips. that seems to go for both FX within and outside of a rack

Yea. I would need the automation in the clip view, since I use clips to toggle gig sounds on and off.
