I can host up to 4 people comfortably in my west philly apartment, perhaps a good deal of jamming and loop remixing could happen too...

if you make it to philadelphia on the second friday of the month, I should be able to hook people up with a free nice venue with 2 separate rooms we could conceivably use. Ulana's on South Street...

i'd be interested in playing in philly and participating in regional shows, so long as they're on weekend nights...

Cool, I will add that to the list. I will see if we can fit the schedule so we can hit Philly on Friday, but it will depend on availability of other venues.

I have set a deadline of 15 May for having our venues booked and schedule done up. We will definintely be in touch M-Lab.

The letter to Claudia at Ableton has been sent (via email). Hopefully they can offer some support to this endeavour. Essentially, we have asked for Ableton to help out with some of the money that will be required "up front" like deposits for venues, rental vehicle, promotional material, etc.
Also, I have indicated that we could reimburse Ableton for a portion of their up front expenses.

The next step is to solicit support from local music stores. If anybody who reads this resides in any of the following cities, please harass your local music store (Ableton Live retailer) about supporting an Ableton Live tour; Post the contact info for the music store here so I can contact them and send a nice letter or email begging for help.

Specifically, the cities are:

Montreal QC (I am asking Steve's Music, Moog Audio & Archembault)
Toronto ON
New York NY (Brooklyn and/or Manhattan I guess?)
Philadelphia PA
Charlottesville VA
Indianapolis IN
Boston MA

For the performers, we can use the letter to Claudia as a base from which to draft a letter to a music store. I trust everybody's judgement for ammending the letters as necessary.

hey all, i'm sorry i just found this thread. well, it was actually started not long ago i guess, but i thought i'd throw in my 2 cents.

i just got back from a tour of (mostly) those same places using live! ah, the irony. we played the following places, all of which are a reasonable (no more than 6-7 hours) drive from one another:

washington dc (a place called nation)
philadelphia (the rotunda)
new york city (albion batcave)
albany (???)
providence (as220)
pittsburgh (???)
cincinnati (south gate house)
detroit (some warehouse)
toronto (savage garden)

most of these venues/promoters were very specific in terms of the kind of music they promoted, so the all-purpose live tour wouldn't probably work with some of them, but that was a decent trip through that part of the world. good luck with the tour, it's ambitious to say the least. if you wanted to make it as far south as atlanta, i could help with a gig here. no more long stretches of touring for me for the time being, i'm afraid, although i'd love to join you.

Zero stress, Zeroplate. Thanks for the info BTW. I am interested in your venue in Albany, they're very close to our tour route, and I have a very good friend there too. My buddy probably showed up at your gig, he's quite into the computer music community there, though he's an MC.

Also, I am somewhat familiar with the Savage Garden in Toronto - it's quite the Gothic joint, no? I had a BLAST the last time I was there (some of those those goth chicks are SOOO hot!), but you're right, they wouldn't really dig Rahlo's Hip-Hop or my breaks, if I recall the mood correctly...

Anyways, thanks for the vote of confidence and the info, and we all hope your gig in Texas goes well! just wanted to pop my head up. i'm still looking for a venue here in NY. i'm getting plenty of "maybe"s so hopefully something will start to materialize. one thing that seems to be of concern to all my potential hosts is the "style" of music they should be expecting from the show. i know, it's the worst question to ask a musician. can anyone just humor me and post a general idea of their music. i'm having this problem of either the hipster bars not wanting any "dance" music or the dance places not wanting any "weird" stuff. NYC is such a fucking scene machine.

For me it's "nu skool" (new school) breaks, Funky breaks and chill house flavoured breaks. The last is kinda genre-bending, but that's as good a description I can offer.

I would suggest that you check out the websites of the performers, download some tracks, burn a CD sampling of the performers and let the music tell the story.

Sorry I just found this thread. I've been in Pittsburgh and Buffalo for the last couple of weeks, and Americans all seem to be bright enough to password protect their nodes, so I didn't have any access.

I'm sort of in limbo for the next month; living in Toronto, doing day or two flights here and there on business and filing US work visas. I've got a couple of gigs coming up with some "80's stars", but the rest of the time I'll be sitting around. I'm good to go pretty much anytime, and I could pick up most of the northern part of the tour, and if my business trips just happen to put me in the right place.....? (Are Lexington KY or Cinci on the itinerary?)

I will see if I can find the name of the promoter and get in touch with her. A guy opened the show also using Live, a guy who is a professor at the local university I believe, and seems heavily into the electronic music scene there. He used Live, as I said, and I quite liked what he was into and he would probably be the best peson to talk to about a show. His name is Seth and his website is http://www.onelonelypixel.org/ Very nice guy, but I wasn't able to talk to him for too long.

Savage Garden was definitely more on the goth/industrial tip and they wouldn't likely be into as diverse a line up as you have here. The people there were into what we were doing which is far from goth, but I think that was a special exception.

As for atlanta, if you get me a potential date or range of dates, i can line up a venue, a place to crash, and i'd be overjoyed to join the show myself and maybe get other atlanta folks using live to come out. Just let me know. You can send me a pm or email mjeanes at submarinerecords dot com.

Thanks Zeroplate. I want to have the dates firm by the end of this week. There's a major event going on in Philly that kind of falls PLOP right in the middle of the planned tour, and I am trying to work around the performers schedules, etc etc.

You will know for certain by Saturday whether we will be dropping by in Atlanta or not. I have been exchanging email with the other performers who signed on originally, and we'll put it to a vote whether to extend this to an 8 stop joint. My only concern is that the more performers we add, we'll end up with twenty minute sets trying to cram everybody in. Sooo, what might happen is there could be a core group of unemployed or vacationing performers who do the whole tour, and those who can't take the time off only play a couple of venues. It's gonna get complicated... more on that in my next post.

OK, for all the folks performing;

It seems that of the responses I have gotten from those who can go on the whole tour, that anything before the 22nd of June is OUT. Good enough for me, more time to plan...

I will post two variations of the schedule here tomorrow morning (Wednesday). In a nutshell, one will be a clockwise circuit, the other an anti-clockwise circuit of the cities in the tour. What I want from the performers is a VOTE on which they prefer. Also, I will expect a Yes/No vote on extending the tour to include Atlanta. I expect votes via PM or email no later than midnight Friday. I hate to be draconian, but I cannot accommodate everybody, and my objectives (in order) are:

1. Minimize travelling and therefore expenses;
2. Have a solid itenerary well enough in advance to facilitate planning and logistic preparation (booking venues, preparing promo material etc);
3. Avoid prominent events in the cities that will sap possible attendence, and likewise hit major gigs on the weekend; and
4. Accommodate as many performers schedules as possible.

Therefore, whatever schedule we have by midnight Friday 07 May is FINAL barring extenuating circuimstances. (before anybody asks, a performer having to make their pedicure appointment in Ogdenville is not an extenuating circuimstance.)

OK, here's a couple of proposals and I will explain why I have boiled this down to two options, and why I have chosen the dates I have.

Firstly, the dates. For those of use who work during the week, I want to minimize the number of vacation days we have to take. This means we should straddle two weekends. Straddling two weekends also offers an advantage to us in drawing a crowd, though I speculate it may be slightly harder to secure a venue for the weekend gigs. However, I am confident that there are enough venues out there that ONE in a larger city will be available for the weekend dates.

So, I propose we set the dates Saturday 26 June to Saturday 03 July INCLUSIVELY. This gives the performers the daytime during Saturday 26 June to travel to the start point (so they don’t miss work or school or whatever you do in your “real” life), and Sunday 04 July to travel home (and for you Americans to celebrate your National Holiday). UNLESS I RECEIVE AN OVERWHELMING “NO” on these dates, I will consider them firm. These dates assume an 8-day tour, which brings me to my next point:

Regarding Atlanta: It is 536 miles, or 863 Km from Indianapolis and 545 miles, or 877 Km from Charlottesville. This makes it a do-able distance, and if Rahlo indicates that there is a possibility of being housed, and there is a venue available, I say we go for it. That pushes the tour from 7 days to 8. I would like a YES/NO vote on Atlanta.

Last, regarding the specific tour dates: I would like a vote on Option One vs Option Two.

Option One (clockwise):

26 June: Philadelphia PA
27 June: Charlottesville VA
28 June: Atlanta GA
29 June: Indianapolis IN
30 June: Toronto ON
01 July: Montreal QC
02 July: Boston MA
03 July: New York NY

Advantages: Start in Philly, end in NY means start and end points are convenient for most, Final Show in major metropolitan centre NYC, Long driving legs are finished at start of tour.
Disadvantages: In Philly during a major music event, Play in Charlottesville on a Sunday – is this possible?
We play in Canada on Canada Day (July 1st) but it's Montreal and Quebecois generally don't get too worked up about Canada day... Therefore I don't see it being much of a competing gig.

Option Two (anti-clockwise):
26 June: Boston MA
27 June: Montreal QC
28 June: Toronto ON
29 June: Indianapolis IN
30 June: Atlanta GA
01 July: Charlottesville VA
02 July: Philadelphia PA
03 July: New York NY

Advantages: Start in Boston relatively centrally located, avoid philly on dates of competing event, Final Show in major metropolitan centre NYC. Montreal on Sunday, as Montrealers still party on sundays and bars are open on sundays here.
Disadvantages: Long driving legs in middle of tour.

I vote to include Atlanta, and I have No preference for the options.
