Really strange problem, maybe with the power ?? Need Help

Hey guys,

first of all: Merry Christmas

I am djing since a few weeks with Live 6.01 and 2 Evolution Controller UC33 and a Echo Audifire II. I had 6 gigs in the past and i everytime have the SAME problem. At home, everything works really great, over 8 hours and longer: no problems.
BUT AT THE CLUB: I start the machine, everything okay ! After a few minutes ( maybe 5-10minutes of doing nothing) one controller send no more midiinformation ! The display and the connection is fine, but in live6 there is no reaction by moving the faders ! Evertime i have to change the power plug into other sockets. And with great luck it works after the 5th time of changing all power sockets...If i use the computer and the power supply of the audiocard together in one (double) power socket, the controllers are not working from the beginning. If i use different sockets, after 5 minutes one of the controller don´t want to send midiinformations. Does anyone heard of this kind of problem ?? Its really strange becuase its only at the club ( EVERY CLUB ) ! What is the problem here ? I think it can only be a power problem. If i have to try to use extra power supplies for the controllers ??

I would not be surprised. Maybe you should try a voltage regulator / power conditioner or something

If I understand your post correctly, you're asking whether to use the power supplies for the controllers, rather than powering them off the USB? That would be a big YES

From problems I've had with my computer, I suspect that USB is very touchy with power fluctuations but of course I can't prove it

hey guys,

i am really desperate. yesterday i had to cancel a gig in a club, because all controllers ( UC33) didn´t work (on stage)! I wanted to start my set, and suddenly the controllers do nothing more !! First only a few knobs, seconds later all parameters are not working anymore- Same problem again ! I use ext. power supplies for the controllers + a high-end voltage box for the laptop (against fluctuation) What should i do ??? I can´t do my gigs anymore ! Hope anybody has an idea ! THe problem occurs EVERY TIME at the club !
Where are the live-artists here ? How do you manage your gigs ?
Anybody similar problems like me ?

Are the controllers coming in over USB? Can you possibly use MIDI cables instead? Can all the controllers also be plugged into the voltage regulator? Is all power saving features on the laptop disabled? Including power saving settings for the USB ports?

Just throwin them out

Unfortunately i turned of the USB-power saving option only today !

the result i can see erliest at the next gig ! that´s the problem. and then i can´t solve the problem at the club ! I think about buying a big power-regulator, that regulates smallest fluctuations. Its only a try, don´t know if anything helps... unfortunately, I see and have no possibilities to build up a real club environment at home: all the lights and amplifiers that all run toghether over only one power arrangement.

Next possibility is to use only one USB-Port and the 2. Controller via midi.

Can´t believe it !

Now I connected the Controllers with Midicables and NO USB !
(Midi from the ECHO AUDIOFIRE2)

It worked 2 minutes, then Controller ONE sent no more informations to
Ableton !

Guys, i think it´s time for a nice suicide !

I used to have persistent problems with losing my USB controller (BCF) - which were greatly reduced by managing the power settings and removing extra USB devices (mouse, etc)

But the problem still pops up from time to time (but only 10% as often as before)

I cannot rule out that there is something about the way Ableton communicates with the controllers which is contributing to the problem.

Although I can't say that my Oxygen8 has ever lost function. But it would be harder for me to identify because I rarely use it...
