Looking for a decent table to add to my setup, so I can add some vinyl elements. Any recommendations? Is a 1200 a reliable choice?

Technics 1200/1210. They may not be the best these days, but they're still very good - and they're what most venues have installed, so they're what you're most likely to come across if you DJ out. I'd also suggest getting a lower "Mk" (say, a "Mk2" instead of a "Mk5") so that you don't rely on features that may not be there on a venue's decks (and save yourself a few bucks too!)

I don't see that it's good for anything other than bringing tho the record store for preview purposes.

AS you said, can't stratch. Can't mix effectively (whether it has pitch or not). Not particularly good-sounding, so wouldn't be anyone's first choice for transferring vinyl either.

Listened to it with with Sony MDR-V6.

Sounded about as good as any $100 turntable I suppose.

The motor really seemed like shit too.

I suppose that relatively speaking, it sounds fine for the price.

I was impressed by the portability, which to me would be only reason for buying one. Wouldn't dare use it for a performance, unless in a real pinch.

if you want to scratch get a vestax 2300 or numark ttx, they have better motors. Technics are still the most reliable and best all around table IMO though, my setup would be 2x 1200s and 1x vestax/numark which i would use for scratching.

it's like saying a guitar isn't the best option for making guitar sounds anymore. proposterous. i dont care how good the "clones" are now, they will never feel like a 12!

Yes.

My 1200's are dirt old. I bought them 2nd hand about 7 years ago, and they were probably about (atleast) 5 years old when I got them, if not more.

They've seen a hell of a lot of use during the 7 years I've had them and look like hell. I'd love to buy a brand-spanking new set but the only reason I am holding off is because these still work fine.

I personally would never consider buying anything other than a set of technic's when it comes to turntables.
