Best AD/DA - And midi control combination for LIVe???

Post by leandrogonza » Fri Jan 05, 2007 3:21 am

Hi guys:
I really need your help. I made the mistake of buying the M-audio project mix, to use with my Live 5. Thinking it would be a great combo. Well IT IS HORRIBLE.

But anyway, under the same money.

Can you please advise me of a good DA/AD and also a good midi control, to control faders for volume, panning and so on.??

Please!!! Your help will be very much appreciated.

thanks again.

Leandro
PS: STAY AWAY FROM PROJECTMIX!!!

ad/da converters won't come cheap, combined with mackie cont

if you wanna good combination i suggest you go premium.

ad/da converters -apogee. can't go wrong
midi control for live - mackie control universal

the idea behind separate components... don't pay extra for either.

mackie control will be $1,200
apogee rosetta 200 $1,800

together $3,000

that's a lot, but the set up is solid.
you'll never have to tell any body not to buy this set up.

don't buy the Mackie Control.
It is way too expensive and not solid at all. Failing faders etc.
Apogee is definately a good option and as a controller go for the BCR or BCF from Behringer.

Faderfox/ Padkontrol

Post by The III Man » Fri Jan 05, 2007 10:37 am

I use the Faderfox LV2 and a padkontrol and a evolution midi keyboard.

Faderfox - ok but a bit of a fiddle
Padkontrol - really nice feel and run with impulse and an instrument rack you have a too draw live sampler/ drum machine, cool XY pad too
Evolution keyboard - standard mini keyboard - fun for playing live keys/strings

The biggest problem I find is nothing has enough pots on it to simulate a 3 EQ mixer for enough channels and has enough spare buttons. Basically the conclusion Ive come too its all the manufactured pieces are pretty overpriced for the number of components you get - I've have been investigating the MIDIbox.org or ucapps.de websites looking at this freeware midi building program. Its not for the feint hearted but one day I will build something thats hot shit and is actually designed to allow room to manipulate shit loads of effects etc... worth investigating
