That's not even an option for me. And like I mentioned before isn't consolidate the exact same thing as freeze, minus the difference in display?

Tell you what, I'll try it just for testing purposes, even though I already know the results.

Ok, just for fun I consolidated all tracks. As expected, saving, copy/paste and zooming was almost instantaneeous.

Since consolidate and freeze are identical, except for what's shown in the display, then I think it's safe to say that this is entirely dependant on the number of clips shown in the display.

Which is what I've been saying since my first post.

Ableton, if you could just fix this real quick, I'd appreciate it. I'll be in my studio, please let me know when the update is ready. I should be here until 3:00PM today, so you have plenty of time.

have you tried consolidating all individual little clips? maybe its not the amount of clips which is causing the slow screen redraw..
you see, you can change little cuts of clips much more than you can in other programs. in most programs you have to make a new clip if you just wanna pitch it. in live you can warp, pitch, draw automation, etc... without having to make a new clip. so the original clip has LOTS of variations. Maybe thats why Live acts this slow....?

Im just guessing here... we have to track down the problem ourselfs as the ableton crew remain silent :?
im not in the mood to consolidate that amount of clips :P

but I think its whats been said before which causes this behaviour.. Live disables the plugin/track (?) if there is no clip. so if live has to switch between clip on/off constantly, it gets slow

I think its one of these two.. what else could it possibly be?

Interesting!

Tarekith, if you can find the time to do this, it'd be awesome.
Suit #1: I mean, have you got any insight as to why a bright boy like this would jeopardize the lives of millions?
Suit #2: No, sir, he says he does this sort of thing for fun.

I'm emailing Support. I want an official answer, and I'm more than happy with a "this is the issue, and we're working on it" answer, but I want it straight from the source. (And I know you guys are reading this, so pony up some answers!)

They're already all individual clips, I cropped them all originally. I consolidated about half of them anyway, but it wasn't making a bit of difference so I stopped. It's definitely the number of items that causes this, doesn't mattter what or how they are. It's the same in the midi editors if you have lots of midi notes.

Maybe Live has to be ever-ready to make all these clips respond to a real-time change of the master tempo.

I say this because I remember hearing from Ableton that that was part of the difficulty of looping without warp.

(?)

I emailed support asking for an official answer to this thread. I got a standard "please fill out the support form for your particular issue" response. I think they're gonna be tight-lipped about this one.
