VST's take up more CPU than before

Post by maaark » Mon Jan 01, 2007 10:58 pm

I use Ableton Live 6 (6.0.3) and Guitar Rig 2 a lot.
That's, aside from some obscure mellotron and sitar VST's, the only VST I use.
I've used it for a rather long time, but lately only one track with one guitar (With GR2) often takes more than 35% CPU and 400 MB RAM, even when idle. Let alone two or more. I used to be able to do multiple tracks (sometimes even five or so) all with GR2.
What has happened? I'm posting here because I don't have another sequencer so maybe it's Live-related.
Had the same problem with 6.0.1 last week. Never had the problem with Live 5, and never had a problem for the first few months with Live 6.

I borrowed my friends AmpliTube, and the same thing occurs... Is it a faulty sounddriver somewhere? I'm getting a bit frustrated.

I'm using an 3.2 Ghz machine with HT and 1 GB RAM, Windows SP2 Home edition, and I record with an Alesis IO2. I don't use the drivers that come with the Alesis, but Asio4all as the original drivers are truly crap.

Maybe someone here can help me... TIA...
