Keystation 49e doesn't work

ok... I just received my m-audio keystation 49e my first midikeyboard but I can't seem to get 1 note out of ableton live 5.2 and 6....
I tried to use the keyboard on my magix notation 1 what did work, I heard sound after I pressed a key but I can't record with it because magix don't suport my keyboard for recording...

Can anyone help me on this or does someone know a course where I can get info about setting up this ableton thing because I think there is lots of documentation in the manual but there isn't anything that can help me out eventough I read all the 350 papers

Hi I got KeyStation 61e (A little bigger, but the same stuff...)
You should not install any driver, should work out of the box.
So follow this steps (WinXP or Mac OS X - Never use an USB Hub, for it might not work):

1. Switch PC On
2. When you reach the desktop, plug in the USB cable (that you already connected to your KeyStation 49e)
3. The Keyboard should light up two little blue leds. It means it can drain current from your USB port and it's a good sign.
4. Start Live
5. Go to Prefrences, MIDI. You should see your KeyStation listed there (it might sound odd but might show up as an USB Audio device...

this is normal)
6. Enable track on button in preferences.
7. Come back to Live Session view
8 Select one Simpler/Operator/Sampler/Impulse preset for the MIDI Track
9. Select Monitor In button in the track or press record for the Track
10. Enjoy!!!!

If you have to use your KeyStation as a MIDI OUT Interface, pls read the manual, there's a procedure you should follow there to enable MIDI out port. It's not enabled by default. For Live to use that, redo the steps 5 to 6 with this new device (even now could show as an USB Audio device, this time as MIDI Out opposed to MIDI IN like before)
What's important is do not plug the Keyboard when Live is up. There might be chances that Live will not recognize the device until next start.

I got my magix working btw but there is a nasty problem again... there is a big delay between the hit of the key and the sound, I read that in the manual already, how can I fix this problem?
I'm using usb and the windows standart midi sampler, should I buy a soundblaster with midi controller or something?

I've been having issues with my Oxygen 8, (ver 1). Everything works fine for about 10 minutes, but then it just seems to stop sending midi to Live, or Reason, or anything else for that matter. If I switch it off and back on it's ok again, but I really don't want to be doing that every 10 minutes! Maybe the keyboard is shot?
I've never had problems with it before, but I reformatted my PowerBook when I got Live 6 and I've been having problems ever since.... any ideas?

Should be latency, it depends from the sound card.
You should post your configuration for better understanding.

You can download Asio4All, a low latency driver here : http://www.asio4all.com/,
works on almost every sound card. Hold on buying new hardware for the moment, try Asio4All and let us know.

I can't talk for Oxygen for I do not own one but my Keystation 61e (crossing fingers) until now works very good. I know probably you already done that, but check the performance setting, they should be on highest performnace or something like that.
We have to exclude that your powerbook tries to spare energy by closing down USB ports. It's the only thing I have in mind even if it's odd. Oxygen should have its own drivers, reinstall what it's suitable for your OS.

I also can't see my usb midi keyboard
I also see that when the play line touches a note the sound isn't there but a bit later, I remember that when the line touched a note on my very old pc you could hear the sound. This old pc had an soundblaster pro with really poor midi sound quality and the drivers don't work anymore with windows XP
I still don't hear any sound from ableton live while I'm using the shipped drivers on the cd now

this is my system:
Intel E6800 core 2 duo

Asus P5NSLI motherboard with onboard SoundMax HD Audio
4 Gig ram

Nvidia Geforce 8800GTX dual (SLI mode)

2 HDD 80 gig each
1 DVD (re-)writer
1 DVD player
2.1 Logitech soundsystem

So I use onboard audio cos I don't have a PCI soundcard
The SoundMax HD Audio doesn't support midi so windows generate midi sound with a software midi sampler called: "Microsoft GS Wavetable-software"
I connect my midi-keyboard with USB to my computer
Weirdly enough I have also an output on this keystation and I c this configuration in Live lite 6:

Input: USB keystation 49e in _____ track on / sync off / remote on
Output: Microsoft GS Wavetable-software ___ track on / sync off / remote on
Output: USB Keystation 49e Out ____ track on / sync off / remote on

I probably going to buy a soundblaster for 20 euro... they aren't expensive but I think it's the only way to get it working good

This one is probably the best, it has a midi sampler

Have you installes Asio4ALL? should bring latency down a lot.
Anyway a SB might be good enough, but if you need more I'd suggest an external Audio Card (FW better than USB).

yeh I can use a midi cable to the sounblaster it has a game-port for joysticks and things like that but it's also midi-in port.
Do you recommend such cable when I still got the big latency?
I'll e-mail ableton about my no-sound problem in live, maybe I'll get sound out of the soundblaster...

I've used that cable for years to drive my external synths (Roland,Alesis) no latency in Cubase, no latency in live. Latency you hear is due to bad drivers (hence the need of Asio4All or a dedcated Audio card usb or FW) The softynths are not MIDI devices onlt, they generate the sound. This takes time. On my toshiba notebook when using simpler I had a big delay. After I installed Asio4All I could use the internal soundcard. No sound from live...mmmmmh

Have you tried to set up Audio in live?
It's done in the preferences panel, you can adjust and try different latencies there.

Hi. Sry to bardge in, but...

I got the same keystation 49e.
I installed the Ableton included (4 Lite, i think).
Then i installed the keystation just as Pasha describes. My Win XP automatically detected and insalled the "USB Audio Device" which i can see in "Device Manager".
But, when going in Ableton, Preferences, MIDI, the USB Audio Device is NOT listed there !

The keyboard was turned on, of course

.

Any ideeas what i could do ?

BTW: i tried to use other SW, like Absynth, or Adobe Audition, or P606 from Cakewalk. None of them listed yhe keyboard in the MIDI input devices...
