MIDI foot controllers

Post by peskatore » Fri Jan 05, 2007 8:32 pm

I have a BOSS FC-50 MIDI foot controller. It seems to send pitchbend data instead of program change data when I use the MIDI mapping mode and tap on the foot switches. All the external pedal inputs work fine (expression pedal for volune, sustain type pedal for tap tempo). I was hoping to use this controller to change clips in Live for live performance. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm using a Mac G4 Powerbook, MIDI Sport 4X4 MIDI interface and an M-Audio Firewire Solo audio box. Would some sort of MIDI translator help? Either software or hardware? Or shound I bag this thing and get a Yamaha or Beringer MIDI foot controller?

Thanks,
Peskatore

I can't speak for the Boss FC-50 but the Behringer FCB1010 works a treat, once you get your head around it! It took me several weeks before I got the idea, but now I get it, it's become an incredibly powerful tool.

Midi Translators may help you achieve what you want, I have found Bome's MIDI translator to be really useful, and MIDI Ox is a really powerful beast but I guess I haven't used that a great deal.

Anyway, hope that helps.

Thanks for writing back.

Are you on a PC? Bome's MIDI translator is only available for PC. I'm on a Mac. Haven't looked at MIDI Ox but I'll check it out. Have you heard anything on the Yamaha MIDI foot controller?

check midistroke for mac.
i used it until i found out that my nobles mf2 has a so called "funny mode" in which it doesn't send programm changes (that need to be "translated" by midistroke) but notes! much easier for me. anyway midistroke is free and great and easy to use!

best,
lars.
