UC33 & UC17 (X-Session) - can u use both together?

Post by DJ Release » Mon May 10, 2004 1:32 pm

Hi All - I really like the look of the UC33 and am on the verge of buying one, but I just wish it had a X-fader like the UC17 (X-Session) as I want to use Live to mix with as I do with vinyl. (and then some :) )

Do you know if I can use them both together - I'd need an xtra USB port obviously but can it be done, also could you use the Enigma software for them both at the same time??

Any ideas

Thanks

UC-33 and UC-17 X-Session

Post by DJADD » Mon May 10, 2004 2:07 pm

I see no problem, I use UC-17 X-Session and UC-16 right now with no problems, in fact, I merge my UC-17 X-Session with my Niche AS Faderbox for more control, USB to power the UC-17, and midi merged to a Midisport USB 4x4. My XP machine can actually see my MK249C, UC-16, 17, and MIDI 4X4 no problems. Of cource, LIVE can only use two, hence the midi merge.

OH, make sure you invest in the UC-33e, not the UC-33, I'm going to pick one up eventually myself.

WOULD you x-session users explain to me, how it is that you can scratch
in abelton live using the x-session, also the basic way that you use it and control things?
thanks

X-Session, UC-33e, etc.

OK, first off, the biggest difference I know of between the UC-33 and the UC-33e, is that you cannot program the midi using the Enigma program on the UC-33, and you cannot do a midi dump to or from on a UC-33. The UC-33e is the upgraded version is all.

As far as how to use it (the X-Session), just play with the program Live messing the the crossfader with your mouse, or maybe mapped to a volume slider on a midi controller, and set up some various tracks with the A and B buttons set, and then just imagine having a nice crossfader slider to work with, in addition to 16 knobs to work whatever else needs workin'. I use the crossfader as a way of messing with multiple tracks of audio, and you can fire the A and B buttons on and off all the while. It's just fun to play with.

I don't "scratch" with live, my partner DJ Dagger uses Final Scratch for that work. I'm sure someone else has some tips on that aspect for you.

Thanks for the reply DJADD, I may have to get both then (if only they could stick a x-fader on the UC33e). It's about time someone brought out a 'proper' metal cased 6-8 channel DJ mixer (with xtra knobs & buttons) that can send/receive midi messages for this sort of thing - i'm sure they must be on the way! (1/2 years) What do you think??

I know where you're coming from man, I've been messing with the Oxy 8 turned thro 90 degs so as to use the vol slider as a fader - does the job but then all the knobs and keys are obviously f****d up!

Anway the UC17 & UC33e combo should sort me out for a while - can't wait to get practising and take it on the road - I'm planning on doing a mixture of records (recorded to computer) my own material and a bunch of samples/loops hits etc, and just see what sort of crazy and far out set I can come up with - no boundaries! (IT'S GONNA BE A LOT OF FUN)

Cheers

the xone only has a limited amount of midi control

crossfader, a couple of buttons and faders

not really what we are looking for

we want every button/fader/knob to be a controller!
