Apple Phone: They had me at "Scrolling"...

Post by kabuki » Tue Jan 09, 2007 8:01 pm

... and LOST me at "Cingular"

Anyone else really bummed that Apple has partnered again, thus shutting out better choices?

Pretty sure that they will open up to the full market eventually. Read somewhere that Apple gave Cingular the rights for the initial release, but no mention of sole rights for a longer duration.

Pretty sure I remember the keynote saying that Cingular has a 2-year deal. That ia WAY too long. This sucks.

I don't have a problem with Cingular. I have a problem with the lack of other services. Out of principal alone I can not change carriers for a phone, much less because I have a T-Mobile contract and they have been very good to me. I can't fathom the idea of not selling it unlocked. Just can't fathom it.

What's the principal behind not switching carriers for a phone?

seems a ot more rigid in the states. over here in the uk, a phone might debut for a month or two exclusively on a single network, but it certainly isnt long before it becomes widely available on more networks and then unlocked.
I will be interested in looking closely at this product when its out over here but hey... its not for a while so....

If Apple made a shotgun fanboys would be standing in line to shoot themselves in the head with it.

Not a bad idea really...

If they wanted me to buy their phone, they should provide it unlocked. I like my service as is. The rates, coverage and features. By partnering with Cingular, I would have to either terminate my contract (which I can't do) and switch carriers, reorganize my budget, payments, etc. or get the phone unlocked, which would prolly void the warranty. Neither are options. I am their customer. I should be able to use the phone on the network of MY choice - barring any hardware incompatibilities.

So, appartently, anyone other than Cingular users are lesser-valued by Apple.
