MULTIPLE VST CONFIGURATION

Im trying to figure this out.
I have a multitimbral vst synth. I use midi one track on channel one to play a piano for example. Now i want a second midi track to use channel 2 on the same synth.
Now i can do this, but all the sounds end up on the same channel which makes levels etc. difficult.

Do i need to open the same synth multiple times to get the sound on individual channels? Or am i doing something wrong.

i think u can rout the audio from channel 2 to a new audio track .. i think this is the only way of doing this .. which is not very good because u need to add a midi and an audio channel foe this to work
