Help Using the same VST instrument.

Lets say im using 1 midi, i throw in a synth, all is good.
Now i want to use the same synth in another midi channel. I insert another midi channel. If i choose the ins and outs of the new channel, select the midi in, then for output choose 1- midi, and i use channel 2. This will work, but all of my midi will be on the same channel, difficult to control volume, pan etc of the individual sounds. I would appreciate any help. Thanks

can you tell which plugin you use? i use battery and hypersonic - and that works well.
