|||||Pandora.com Cool Audio Streaming Site|||||
Hey a friend from work hooked me up with this streaming audio site...
>>
>> It is actually quite good it uses A.I. to
>> program
>> your personal station... First you enter in the artists you like then it
>> will play those artists and ones comparable.. If you do not like the
>> mystery artists you can choose not to play them... All my artists were
>> found and it is free... Check it out good time waster when at work or
>> home... So far been hearing some cool stuff that I would never of heard of before...
Here is are the parameters they use to appeal to your tastes...
house roots
four-on-the-floor beats
disco influences
rock influences
use of modal harmonies
dry snare
a tight kick sound
a synth bass riff
a busy bass line
synth riffs
a highly synthetic sonority
trippy soundscapes
prevalent use of groove

Bloody brilliant!
As an experiment I tried inputting some mid to late 70's syncopated funk in there. So I tried it out by adding:
Kool and the Gang
Cameo
Donald Byrd
Carl Carlton
The system gave me back:
Controversy by Prince (never heard it before - damn funky!)
Take my Heart by Kool and the Gang
Bad Mamma Jamma by Carl Carlton
Golden Years by Loose Ends (I haven't heard it in years... Not too bad!)
How Many Times by Brother Beyond (utter shit - gave it the thumbs down)
Quiet Afternoon by Stanley Clarke (very smooth, nice - I never heard of him before).
So, after only five songs, I've already found two great songs I had never heard before, and one artist I'll probably check out some time.
Utter genius site Brian!!

Unfortunately, they can only play the stuff they have a licence for. Besides, if you want to hear a specific song, to check out beatport or itunes. If you want stuff that you haven't heard of before, pandora's the source!!!simpleton wrote:It sucks! it won't play Johnny Guitar Watson's A Real Mother for Ya
last fm never worked for me, it sat in the system tray, I could listen but all the options were greyed out, couldn't SCROB (whatever that meant), skip tunes or change the vibe.debu wrote:How about Pandora + last fmhttp://pandorafm.real-ity.com/

Scrobbed just meant it'd take the music that you played in your player send it to the lastfm site and give you statistics and recommendations based on what you were listening to. It didn't work well for me either, but I've heard it's improved.Tone Deft wrote:last fm never worked for me, it sat in the system tray, I could listen but all the options were greyed out, couldn't SCROB (whatever that meant), skip tunes or change the vibe.debu wrote:How about Pandora + last fmhttp://pandorafm.real-ity.com/

I just used the lastfm site to type in some old obscure jazz, funk, classical stuff and see what it'd come up with. I got better recommends with it than Pandora but the player blows.
