Desk/Workstation, with some extras

Post by BDS » Fri Jan 12, 2007 2:54 am

All -

I was curious if anyone here is using a drafting table or something else with adjustable height controls (w/MIDI!!!). If so, what brands?

My current desk is a big rolled steel monstrosity that presents some problems when trying to use Live with instruments. I'd prefer to play standing up, but need to have my lap top higher (myopia victim).

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

BDS

Cosmo -

Yeah, I remember seeing a bunch of those when everybody was doing the Gear/Studio/Ugly Mug threads, and I have to agree that the Jerker looks nice.

My problem stems from needing to get more practice using Live/Instruments/MIDI controllers while standing...and I'm just near-sighted enough that having the screen & a controller below waist height absolutely kills me. Did I mention I've got a bad back?

I need to browse Ikea again, it seems that once upon a time I saw an adjustable height desk/table in their catalog.

Thanks for the input, though.

ARDJ -

If I'm looking at this thing right, it looks like I could raise that desktop up about 10-15 inches? Is that correct? Or would it become dangerously unstable? Why is the funny man on fire? What?

Thanks for posting. I'm gonna check that catalog.

To bad it doesn't have an attachment for rack gear. :)

Back home in Kansas, when I was working on the Milo Farm, we'd go see the Swedish Meno-Knights/SCA people (honestly, I can't remember what denomination they are, but one of the Horse & Buggy sects). Yoder, I believe. Biggest damned Cinnamon Rolls, like the size of my head or my cat or something. And, totally edible, just like my cat or head if you're into that sort of thing.

Thanks.

Yeah...Shaggy, rack mounts would be pretty sweet. I found something from ALVIN CO that looks like it might work - semi-portable, too. Or foldable at least.

Right now I have my rack stuff in a couple of portable cases. One 4 space rack and one 8 space rack with both of them being full. I've thought about getting this desk from Musicians Friend but I'm not sure if it'll be what I want.

Shaggy -

That seems to be the sort/variety that lives in most of the Guitar Center-type places I've been in.

They always look solid, but to be honest I'm usually busy looking at the equipment on/in 'em rather than at the build quality of the desk itself.

Right now I'm using this desk from staples that I've had for a few years.

That pictures a bit old with less equipment then I have now (as well as some changes) but you get the idea. It's just getting cramped.
