running live from external HD?

Post by aen » Fri Jan 12, 2007 6:32 pm

HI there.

I've been using live for a while, but my laptop has a slow hard drive, so i overload all too often. I was wondering if anyone had experiences running live on an external hard drive with a firewire connection. My more computer literate friends say it would probably work, i'd really like to not buy whole new computer before i can do 12 tracks...

You could try first just moving your Library to the external and only read files off of the external. Make sure you set your recordings to happen there as well. That should speed things up.

It's more work, but you could install OS X and boot off of the external, and install Live on it. Basically not using your internal drive at all. That way all your system caching will take place there as well.

ive had no problem running live from an external western digital firewire drive and macbook pro...

bought a small 160 micro drive firewire the other day and it isnt working out... think it something to do with drawing power from the firewire because it causes feedback in my motu when you acess it..
