do you mean you have the two copies running in the same computer at the same time? as far as I know, you can't do that. 8O

It is a 'quixotic' methodology. It is possible to do this, but it is a 'non supported' usage, and stuff can happen. The only way I've been able to use this semi-reliably is to have two instances running each with a set loaded. If your iface has multiple ins with a mixing console you can blend from one set to the other. HOWever, if you try to load yet another set into an instance whlie the other is playing, the audio will interrupt. I have mentioned that it would be nice if this were supported, and was heaped with scorn by various forum members who didn't see the utility of it.

I have pondered over this for some time, I even thought about buying a second laptop and Asio FW card an syncing for ultimate flexability but means more controllers unless one could have to instances of Ableton to share 1 or 2 control surfaces. If you do open a second instance of Ableton does it not try and detect a rewire device?

it will detect a rewire devices but its no biggie...its weird with midi becasue the midi will affect both abletons at the same time...like one fader will affect 2 abletons

the real advantage with 2 abletons is 2 waveforms
