Question About RAM

Post by Naive Teen Idol » Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:52 pm

I just bought a MacBook 2 GHz Intel CoreDuo, 512 mb RAM and am about to upgrade to Live 6. I've been playing around with 6.0.1, and finding that it's a little slow in its responsiveness, cutting in and out a bit when I trigger scenes.

Is it likely my short supply of RAM? I'm def. aware that 512 mb is the minimum required for Live, and plan on getting more. But before I decide to do the upgrade, I wanted to be sure. Thanks...

Hi - Yeah, in any case, more RAM can't hurt. At some point, adding more won't make much difference in performance, but I would go AT LEAST 1GB right now. Also, other things affect performance of course, such as your processor, hard drive speed, audio interface and video card.

My PC desktop has 1.5 GB (1536 MB) of RAM right now and I'm planning to expand to 3 GB soon. However, my processor is getting old, so it will soon be more to blame for low performance rather than how much RAM I have.

Thanks -- in this case, w/ a few other apps open, I'm noticing that I have, like, 5 MB of RAM free. So, it would make sense if RAM's the problem, given that others here have no problems w/ MacBooks. I don't actually know my HD speed...

1 Gb works for me, but only as long I don't use samplers and other Ram demanding stuff.
If you plan to work with synths only you should be fine with 1Gb,
512 is definately not enough.
I hit the limit with my projects now, so I'll upgrade to 2 Gb soon.
