Just finished the CAD for top panal. We are building a mock out of perspex first to be sure we are happy with measurements. Don't wanna too small a gap between knobs for example. I will check to see if warren my mate is happy before posting as he may wanna wait till we are a bit further on with this. Sorry about the delay folks. Don't worry this is still happening. You wanna see the led buttons. They are sweeeeeeeeeeet! Overall its very similar to maven but with more freely assignable knobs, filter section and better eq with kill switches.

Yes we are using Midibox. Midibox 64 to be precise. The buttons took me ages to track down. Buttons are available from www.rjselectronics.com. I have a part number of RJSPB61303BL-5. This changes depending on colour etc. I know there are a lot of people waiting for this but we try to work on it whenever we can whilst holding down a job, keeping relations with the missus sweet etc etc. If Warren is happy for me to post the CAD of the top sheet I will.

Those are some nice switches - im getting mine from www.mec.dk and im also building a mb64. Have you decided how you going to label your front panel? If you havent already check out www.frontpanelexpress.com for doing a aluminum front panel cutout. Im getting mine done there for about 90 bucks. as for the actual front panel labeling layout, im planning on doing laser cut acrylic sheets with different colors and printouts to future proof this controller while keeping a professional look. I figured if I actually etched in my labeling, a newer version of live would probably change how I do everything and I'd be stuck with a controller that was labelled for only one way. Keep us updated im looking forward to see your design

We are going for laser etched top sheet. Basically you don't have to label everything. Most of the mixer is built around what a DJ needs so we will etch accordingly. However, we have a section that you can assign freely so there is no need. We may even do it so its just a white area that you can write with non-waterproof pen like many producers do on masking tape on big desks. This may sound un-professional but we wanted there to be a section that a DJ can use as a sketch pad for ideas and functions. Take it or leave it- at least the option exists. Gonna be great. In fact currently there are 8 freely assignable knobs with closely associated buttons. We asked, what would you mostly use? We then built those functions in whilst giving you freedom to experiment with Live. It may be crap but we don't reckon:-). We are lucky cos we have such great engineering skills freely available to us.

are you planning on making a bunch of these? I think its a good idea to have a freely assignable section - makes the controller somewhat future proof

At present only for a bunch of mates who use ableton. In the spirit of midibox we all have an input. But there are bigger hopes for something else not using the midibox platform  That, however, I am not telling. :-)

OK so I know it's been ages but I have some first pics of the electronics layout under the top panal. I know we're gonna get slated for how long its taken but don't care. More pics coming soon. Have not worked out how to post images directly into forum yet so check out my My Space pics:
