OT: So I'm buying some stands for my monitors.

I've decided to go for the stands because there is a possibility that I might be moving out of this apartment come summer and it'll be much less of a hassle than it would be if I bought a new desk.

Any specific ones recommended? Any ones I should avoid?

im lookin too....
those ones arnet bad, only thing is 1000mill the the highest, and that wont cut the mustard for getting em up to listening height (ear height).
Any other suggestions?

Does anyone know where you can really tall ones, that'll hold a big monitor/hi fi speaker?

These would actually be for my Djing monitors. The surface I have my decks on doesn't have enough room for speakers. A tall stand that could keep them at almost head height would be very cool..

Anyone got any ideas?

I know this isn't what you're looking for, but I thought I'd mention it here anyway. I got a set of the Auralex monitor isoloation pads, and they work really well. Basically they are cut pieces of nice foam that keep studio monitors from vibrating what they are sitting on. They make the sound much cleaner and raise the speakers a couple of inches....cost me about $30 for the set.

The amount of shops I have been too in the last week to try pick up a cheapish pair of floor standing stands is crazy. Thought I finally found a pair in Richer sounds Wednesday, after being told they had 3 pairs out the back only to find it was a stock error. And no, the delivery of them didn't come in the next day as promised. :/

I'm looking to get some stands to mount on my worktop. They need to be about 10" high to get them to the correct height for when I am seated. I'm having no luck whatsoever.

I want stands that I can screw onto my worktop (which is hollow) and then screw my speakers to as well. Is this going to cause vibration in the work top (hollow, remember)...

I'm no authority on this, so don't believe me, but I'd say there will probably be vibration. You would need to decouple the speaker from the worktop and/or stands for there to not be any vibration, which is what the Auralex MoPads do. I had no idea so much vibration was going on until I got those under my nearfield monitors, and heard the monitors by themselves for the first time.

If you don't decouple the monitors from the surface they are resting on, you at least want to make sure there are no tiny gaps between the surfaces, or gaps in anywhere in the worktop. If anything is loose, or there is a space to vibrate, it will vibrate. The stands would probably help some, as long as they were not themselves buzzing.
