Freeze Clip!

Post by August » Thu Jan 11, 2007 5:09 pm

It would be nice to be able to freeze a clip instead of a track.
Not so much to safe CPU, but a nice way to fast safe all effect settings on a specific clip.
Another, maybe better, way this could be done is by having a command called "Stamp" all midi and effect settings to clip. That means that all effect settings wil be Drawen (Stamped) as automation into that specific clip, and return to previous state when going to next clip. Unless that next clip has stamped or other drawen automations allready, thoose will offcourse be used then.

OR maybe both options

I see what your saying, interesting concept, but perhaps a bit tricky to implement in a simple user-friendly way. I often find myself wishing I could adjust the volume on each clip individually though.

Have you tried using rack chains with the chain select parameter? You can effectively have each clip going through its own effect rack if you do this. So you could duplicate your rack for each clip and have a different set for each clip.

you can also freeze the track,
copy a frozen clip to an audio track
and unfreeze the track again..

works fine..

There is a gain slider on all audio clips.

I wish I could export a clip (with effects) to audio just by dragging it to an audio track

Isn't that what happens when you drag a frozen clip into another track
*goes to check*

True, but not on/after midi clips.

True, but they do have volume envelopes for the instruments on the track, so you can still set different volumes on each clip in a track.

Except maybe not if you're routing to another track. But in that case you might achieve something similar by putting a velocity plug on the clip track, and using the velocity envelopes. This would of course depend on the setup of the instrument and whether it was sensitive to MIDI note velocity.

A very usefull tool for applications with poor export/bouncing options.
