I have a few problems digesting this....
1, If you actualy do some research into Microprocessor architectures, you will find that PowerPC architecture is superior to X86 architecture. Apple dropped the PowerPC architecture because IBM just were not making huge advancements in terms of speed. X86 is where the big bucks are and there is also alot more competition. What can Apple do except move over to X86, its no admition of inferior technology, its a move to a technology which advances very quickly!
2, I have a PowerPC Mac and I have some truely brilliant peices of FreeWare. I can always find a great altenatives to Windows only software. Everytime I have to find FreeWare for my PC, I end up downloading something that says its completly free but its actualy a demo or end up downloading some spyware/virus.
Back to the topic.....The multi-tasking abilities of Mac OS X makes it ideal for audio. I run normally Live, Reason, Pro Tools, iTunes at the same time with NO issues. My mates PC laptop (which is over 2 years younger than my PowerBook and cost alot more) stuggles if you have Live and iTunes running at the same time.....and he spends alot of time optimizing settings, etc!!
Having used Macs and PC's for music for many years, I would say that Macs are much more reliable, stable and user friendly. You can take a Mac straight out of the box and run great software and hardware with the minimum of fuss or worry. I just could not trust a PC for a live performance, so for me there is no contest!!!

P.S. I love how offended people get when the Mac/PC fights break out....People can use whatever they want....if it gets the job done, then whats the problem. I don't need narrow minded idiots telling me whats right and wrong. I'll make up my own mind from my own knowledge and experience! If somebody is looking for opinion, then give it and shut up!
I started with an Atari 1024FM and then started using a pc,sinc 4 years now i only use mac and i will never use pc for any reason,i just hate windows and ............
mac computers have beter quality. If one day i have to change,i will go back to Atari and buy a hard disc recorder and finish the story, plus some synths or samplers.

I myself don't actually own a mac but i use one at school. The one reason that people see macs as 'SuperComputer' is the fact that a high percentage of all music production tools, apps and utillities are going to be designed for mac and pc if not mac alone. If you want to better yourself you'd go out and buy a mac and have a plethora of production software or you could just stick with pcs (hope, pray, email) and wait for them to release it on pc.
Thanks,

I have had very little problems downloading and using dozens and dozens of freeware synths, FX etc on my PC.JamieG wrote:

Check the Tips/Tricks thread for a few lists.
Abletonians can confirm which ones work and sound great... threads on that too. Definately worth checking out if you haven't had much success finding good freeware. It's in abundance

There are fewer plug-ins for mac, when I search for plug ins I don't even consider the platform, when I've looked for people on Mac you have to search out mac plug ins.
Also people are constantly complaining about the availability of UB versions.

In no way meaning to offend you, this view seems a bit dated, there's an abundance of software that is cross platform.Rayne wrote:If you want to better yourself you'd go out and buy a mac and have a plethora of production software or you could just stick with pcs (hope, pray, email) and wait for them to release it on pc.

I think this is one area where apple could give better customer support. Their warranties are shit.subterFUSE wrote:
The MacBook Pro is the best built laptop on the market, sreves as a PC as well as a MAC so that argument is void,
If you drop it, you won't think so anymore. I've seen it a thousand times. The metal cases split open and bend, and you can't fix them or bend them back.
I've seen plastic laptops get dropped pretty bad, but never split open like some of the Macs I've seen.
I will admit, the macbook pro certainly is a good-looking computer. Every time I see one, they really look nice. But I'll always remember another Mac owning friend who bought one, and dropped it in the first month. The case split open and the front left corner got bent. She couldn't close the case completely after that, and contacted Apple about fixing it. The amount they wanted to charge to get a new case was unbelievable. So she just had to live with it like that, where it wouldn't close. Pretty annoying.
When I got my last Dell laptop a few years ago, I stepped on it the first day I had it. Broke the screen. (I was at college, inthe dorm... I had the top bunk-bed, and I climbed onto my desk to get into the bed.) I called Dell, and told them I stepped on it and needed to get it fixed. I told them I expected to pay for it. They sent FedEx to my place, picked up the laptop. Less than 24 hours later, FedEx was at the door.... with my computer. Fixed. New screen. No charge. I couldn't believe it.
I had a PC all those years and moved to Mac because of the intel in mac.simpleton wrote:I've noticed that the two most exciting advancements in the MacKingdom were that:

I run both OS's.
at the same time.
I have never had a better computer.
