pleaaase... resizable tracks!!!

Post by peeddrroo » Fri May 21, 2004 10:54 pm

please dear ableton
i'd love to have resizable tracks in session mode. once there's not enough viewable tracks on the screen, and the other time the column will be too small to read the clips names...
verrrry annoying for me.
it really happens often that i want to double click to resize the columns. but nothing happens...
hope it will be available soon!

thanks!

Amen plus one. This would be more desirable to me than any feature upgrade, except maybe an auto-summarize feature like MSWord, to round off my tunes without requiring any human talent, but that's just crazy-talk. I hope.

i would love that feature too

when i'm in dj mode(not in the studio) i limit myself to 6 or 8 channels

it would be great if i could stretch out the 6/8 to fit the screen so i could read the clip names properly.

In some cases...

In some situations it'd also be nice to be able to resize down to just the play/stop button.

If you've got a track for drums/bass/melody... and your scenes are well labeled you may already know what your "intro drums" are... and not want to see what the file name is in there.

yeah, I think most of us on this thread are clamoring for smaller session veiw track widths, not larger. to be able to drag the borders of any track to make it wider or smaller would be ideal (i.e. on a track by track basis, not all tracks getting re-scaled at once)

I personally would rather see all tracks resizable, but still uniform. The greatness of Live is in its simple unclutteredness. I find in Arrange view, resizing tracks can get a little distracting. Looking at a session view with all different sizes also would give a different presentation and demeanor for the program. Still probably a good idea.

i have my idea about the way it could be: 3 different size, that you would choose with a button identical to the "show/hide browser", and just above it (no space wasted).
the way it would work is that you have 4 positions:
- the arrow pointing 3 o'clock: current view
- arrow at 6: clips are double size
- arrow at noon: narrow view the clips are tiny ; the level meters and buttons are only available for display, not for clicking or setting (this is supposed to be a global view, especially nice when you use a midi remote). it could actually be a "fit to screen" view.
- finally, at 9 o'clock, it could be the "hide clips" function, as there is currently no button for that purpose.

well maybe not 100% is a good idea, but

I can understand why they don't, but a simple tooltip when you mouse-over clips to reveal their name would be a good stop-gap measure :)
