Annoying Bug - Live suddenly goes mono, left channel only!!!

Post by TechLo » Thu Jan 25, 2007 10:54 pm

Every session I work in this seems to happen. I'll be tweaking a parameter in real-time, or I'll use the jump-to cue during playback, and Live 6 (latest update) will suddenly start playing one or all channels in mono from the left channel only. WTF? This seems to happen a little more frequently when using Basement Arts' Frantic or the Voxengo Marquis compressor, but seriously, it still happens even when I'm not using them. I have to save, shut down, and relaunch to fix this. Jesus! It's enough to make me go back to using Sonar all the time. Any ideas or fixes?

Hi TechLo,
wich audiointerface do you use?
Does the master channel meter in Live still show stereo output?
If there is a console for your audiointerface, what do the meters show there?
If you switch the samplerate either in Live or in the console does that cure the problem for a while.
There are already a few people out here with this problem, including me with my audiofire2, never happened with my ozonic.
If we could track it down that would be cool.

hmm, encounterd the same problem with the audiofire 4, (though only one or two times...) actually, i recall changing the sample rate would fix the problem. (i know it sounds funny, but it did!)

Are you both on OS X?
Does it still happen to you latufe?
Happens really randomly to me.
What do you mean with fix the problem?
Do you mean running at 44100 and the problem doesn't occur anymore or just for the moment when it happens.
I remember having the trouble always at 48000, but could be wrong.

It happens on both my Delta66/Omni I/O & my Kore phones out. This last time it just happened when relooping a section for the first time. My SR is set to 44100 across the board. Yes, Live Master output shows left channel only when this happens.

***I just deleted Frantic from a channel and suddenly fixed the problem.***

I've tried to contact Basement Arts before about bugginess in their software and they haven't responded. It's too bad, it's a good filter, but has caused me nothing but problems in Live.

im on os x 10.4.8 - regarding the AudioFire issue: it happend to me randomly aswell, though not recently... i ment, reseting the SR, (switching from 44 to 48 and back to 44, for instance...), instead of rebooting...

though it never happend outside of live, i still think it has to do with the interface, hopfully a new driver will solve the issue...

Ok Techlo,
then your problem is pretty sure caused by the Frantic plugin.
To you latufe,
do you also have an M-Audio console installed on your machine?
As my Ozonic console has always the mute switch on (should mute a stereo pair) when coming back from sleep,
but there is only one channel muted until you switch it on and off.
Buggy shit also, but not that both are related together?
