speaking of, anyone remember that boy meets world episode where the girl could only write good music when she was depressed.

have i succomb to this?
holy crap age related depression at 23??

man, I concur with the other 30+ dudes - you dont know your alive!

Seriously dude, especially at 23 you should be naive and full of spunk enough to be knocking on every record company's and promoter's door you can find - you have to do it now because you'll get too cynical and jaded later!

that's why so many musicians make it in their 20s - because they have that unrelenting drive that gives them the ability to repeatedly bash your head against their doors until they hear you!

"youth is wasted on the young" - basically what you want is the common sense you really dont start to get until really around 30, (although my mother still says she didnt start to get any sense until she was 50 - I guess the benefit of hindsight follows you always!) but the body you had when you were 20 - that is the great bastard of life

but I guess it's that common sense that makes you cynical and jaded so NEVER wish away your 20s! that's when you have the most drive!

and that goes for you too Sweetjesus! Enough of the "old" - -celebrate this birthday because you have 4 years left to be daft and starry eyed before you turn into a real grown up who needs to think about things like real Jobs, mortgages, marriage, trips to Ikea, and children for women to take them seriously!

So have a happy one!

29 > 30 - im no looking forward to that countdown.

will be a sad day the 30th.
I just turned 29 in January. So far it has been pretty sweet, but I recommend occaisionally reminding yourself that this is after all it. Especially when your sitting on your ass, typing on a forum.
LOFA, aren't you living with your mom?
Bro, I've been on my own since I was 16. Keep it in your pants.

i'm with ya man. i've got my residency at the biggest club in san diego right now so i'm doing okay, but labels have been turning down some of my stuff lately and its fuckin annoying.

i do think your right though but for a different reason... my 9-5 is in sales and rejection is a daily part of my day. i dont even know what it means anymore to be rejected, i've got rhino skin. i'll keep pushing forward and thanks for the advice, :)

I'm glad to be old, and to have been alive back when innovation, originality and individuality made things special, and we weren't overwhelmed with the sheer volume of production-line/construction-set/preset music/film/media/etc from machines, and every swingin' dick wasn't a DJ/producer/bedroom musician.

I remember as a kid how special the Wizard of Oz was every year... color TV... early synthesizers... computers...

Nothing's special any more. Everything's a regurgitation. And it's five minutes til midnight: http://www.thebulletin.org/minutes-to-midnight/

Damn... must get on the medication and back into therapy!
