Partial WACOM Tablet support for PC

Post by leinad » Fri Oct 20, 2006 6:22 pm

The latest releases of Live 5 and 6 for Windows are now WACOM Tablet enabled through the use of the tool Pen2Live.

It's only a partial solution because the pen tip still can't be used to move the erratic controls. To move them you need to middle click over them (see your Wacom Tablet Properties in the Control Panel to find out which button has assigned the middle click to it; if none has, then assign it to one).

latest (Feb.2009) -> http://tinyurl.com/Pen2Live1-3

If you don't have Vistual Studio 2005 installed, then you also need to install this file:

Pen2Live is not a product from Ableton but from a Live user.

Daniel

Fixed a bug (middle click release would not be recognized if it happened outside of the Live window).

I updated it to work with 6.0.3

This one should also work with future upgrades.

Is there any chance that you and Ableton team up to implement this in Live?

I'am on Mac and really like to use your utility..

Let's get this Wacom hassle fixed..

Was this a problem with WACOM tablets like those USB notepads, or is this a problem with tablet PCs in general?

It's a problem with tablet PC's as well...can't get pen2live to work on mine tho. Oh well, I'm just hoping Ableton will fix this the near future.

What's wrong with it? Get an error message?

Do you know how I can get my tablet to allow a "middle click"? I have one switch on the pen that is dedicated to right-click. Is there a way to make that a "middle click"?

EDIT: Nevermindi I found an updated driver.

EddieJ, say, is that a TabletPC in the setup that can be seen in the signature? Does it work without Pen2Live? Your setup looks really interesting.

Yeah, it's a tablet PC. No, without Pen 2 Live the controls are irradic. I had to setup the middle click, and that gets me stable controls.

So, once again, that you for Pen 2 Live, it saved my setup!

I contacted Ableton three times telling them what minor changes they needed to make in order to make the pen tip be used with pen2live instead of a secondary button, but they preferred to ignore me. I told them I'm not going to contact them more than 3 times regarding this issue, so I won't do it anymore.

In the meantime I have been programming with the WACOM SDK and noticed that it is really a child's play to add native support for WACOM tablets to any App (pen2live is only a hack which modifies the mouse messages which Windows sends to Live). In less that 15 minutes I had direct access to all parameters (position, buttons, pressure, tilt).

It's really sad to see that Ableton is not caring about tablets. If they'd only realize how well they go together.

EddieJ should open a new thread in general called TabletPC and post a big photo of his setup. That would make users become interested and they'd start to know that Ableton isn't supporting this type of setup and spread the word about it.
