but this game has been going on since the crusades. we just have
ignored it all this time.their doctrine calls for our extinction.and one of these
days they will have the means to accomplish it.they will not stop until we are
all dead.
i agree bush is not the solution,but niether is the ostridge theory;
they walk on sand,we stick our heads in it and wait to be cut off
at the neck.
the threat is real......1pauper1
but the thing you're forgetting there is that these "islamo-fascists" you're talking about are the minority of muslims, but all of them are getting branded with the same iron
there are 1.2 billion muslims on this planet - over a fifth of the worlds population, so it's a big mistake to go around thinking like that
by those numbers, then 1.2 billion chinese and 1 billion Indians, Americans/Brits/Australians etc are by far the minority yet are the ones swanning around like they have a right to be the worlds policemen starting fires they cant put out!!
plus - 1pauper1 - you said it in your last post: "either play to win, or don't play at all." - America has had a history of making that mistake - vietnam was the big glaring example - a war they could have won if they were in it to win it as the British proved in Malaya ten years previously (very similar guerilla type war)
the game of war has to be to win, if you're going to do it at all, otherwise all you're doing is killing more and more innocents with no point at the end of it - I'm not for war at all, but I'm even more against unwinnable wars where they only kill many many people and only make the problem worse
you also said: " unfortunately,we as a nation have become complacent.
we are a brave nation of people who are willing to die for what we believe in
but we are no longer willing to kill for it"
the problem seems to be more a case of not actually knowing what you believe in - why the hell was vietnam fought? why did all those people die? does anyone even know any more? what happened to the communist "threat" that wasnt quashed in vietnam? was it really worth all those deaths? despite the defeat, Life's still pretty good for people in the west and the communist bloc is non-existant......
and why are they in Iraq? something about WMDs?? well that turned out to be complete shit and it's blatantly apparent they knew that before hand
so the only things left are Oil and strategic position. Well you can kind of understand the strategic viewpoint, although it would probably have been far more sensible to just work on palestine and israel working out a split and get the hell out of the mid-east and let them sort their own problems - Iraqis on the whole were actually enjoying a good standard of life before the invasion if they didnt get on the wrong side of saddam - in fact Bush will be remembered by Iraqis in their history as a much bigger blight on their country than Saddam will
and as for the reason being Oil - well that makes America no better than common thieves - are you happy to wear that?
here with Iraq we have another big example of why this kind of war is just stupid and pointless - it doesnt work and I would have thought after vietnam they would have been acutely aware of that, but I guess Bush didnt actually go there so he didn't have too much of an aversion towards creating another one
Bush would have to go down as the stupidest president in history though
