Changing the time signature !!!

Post by RichardBois » Mon Jan 29, 2007 1:33 am

:( 8O
I can't believe it !
It is not possible to change the time signature in a song in Live ?

Three bars in 4/4, one bar in 3/4, then 4/4 again ... not possible ?

Two solutions : I didn't find how to do it 'cause I'm stupid or the soft is stupid !!!

Please HELP !!

:o

I guess it's not possible yet.

But off the record, Reason won't do it either. Weird, since it's basic stuff..

May be I should post this question in the Live section rather than in the user ...

How the developpers can decently think this piece of software can be used by professionals

Live is for kids learning music !!!

i use multiple signatures in sets at every show.
you can set the signature in each separate clip.
if you think of the universal sig as 1/1, you can have your
bars set at any sig...unless you need a louder click track on the 1 of each bar,
i personally don't need to change the universal sig for each tune in a
compilation set.....

Again, ... I in a complete dream !

Even if I admit to go back 500 years in music notation, and denie the progresses made by Monteverdi or XXth century's music notation, a major problem stays in this music thinking !

If you want export your song in midi file to be able to make parts for musicians ... this method (1/1 thinking) is very dangerous ... I don't even want to think showing parts to musicans with a time signature = 1/1 !! Suicide would be cooler !!!

Live is defineltly a toy software !!

What is it with people and the "professional" obsession? Chill out and make some music, geez.

Sure, if you want ot go deep in advanced music composition Live is not the software that suite your needs.

I always found live very useful to assemble midi files but not for editing it.

But by telling Live is a toy software, you are completly wrong. This software is powerful and act as a revolution in many aspect of music composition and music performance.

Maybe you should use a notation software, like sibelius. I know a lot of people using live with complex metrics change without any probs but the compositon work is done elsewhere.

Oh and by the way, nobody is forcing you to use it.

the only solution i've found in arrangement mode is to change the time signature, start working on the new stuff on the downbeat of a new measure, do whatever work it is you want to do in that new signature, move that stuff to start immediately after the former time signature and repeat that if you want to change again.

I don't understand why they don't add the ability to change time signature by typing it into the scene change window, like you can with BPM. That would be awesome. Seems to me there has to be a reason (ie. a coding issue) for them to have not done this by now.

Of course. You play music, hence anything that you use do play music with must be a toy. :D

I guess the warp engines the Abes licensed won't hack it with non-4/4 stuff.

I wish they did, this is my only annoyance. Apart from dual-monitor support.

That seems strange. I mean, you can use a different time sig to 4/4. You just can't use more than one in a single set.

:D

Very strange to be insulted in a user forum ! First time in 25 years of internet use.

I was testing Live on a laptop, fowarding to install it on a studio workstation with three screens (time line, editing and video) to replace an old software ... I won't, for sure ... since I understood in this forum that Live is not able(ton) to manage multi screen ...

You're right ... it's not a toy soft, ... bye bye !
