Organizing loops and sounds, please Help!

Post by acibahia » Sun Jan 28, 2007 11:57 pm

Hi,
I'm very new to Ableton Live.
I mainly use Logic Pro for music production but I'd like to start using Live during my concerts.
How should I organize all the sounds and loops (tons of them) for a clear setup of Live?
I'm very used to the Apple loop browser of Logic, and with live it's a different thing.

Should I make a copy on a new folder of all the loops and sound I've selected for concerts instead of keeping them in the original location?
Many thanks!

Unless you have tons of diskspace, making copies is not necessary. Keep the same system you have now, and just learn to use Live's browser and its search functions. When you create new tracks, if you choose "Collect all and save" then Live will collect all loops and samples and then store them in the project's local directory. My suggestion is for you to not make more copies and add additional headaches.

The only thing to worry about is that if you every hit the Edit button while working on a loop before you Collect and save, then you risk making permanent changes to that loop.

Thanks for your answer.

I can't find "collect all and save" (I use Live 5 for mac)
I only see "Save Set "self-contained"
Any idea?
Thanks

Oh sorry. In Live 5, it was called Save self contained. :)
