Preparing to use live, LIVE

Post by HeavenSounds » Fri Feb 02, 2007 7:34 pm

So i ordered a laptop, it'll be here Monday. I plan on taking my show on the road at the end of february. I've gotta few questions though.

1. is there a way that i can take a set that i have on my desktop pc, save it in a self containing kinda way where live grabs all the samples and things used in the set and puts then all into one neat and tidy folder? that way i can just transfer that one file/folder to my laptop without having to jump around, copying and pasting all the elements from the project folder from the desktop to the laptop.

2. Right now i play live three times a week in my home. Little in house gigs for my friends and stuff. Prior to playing i put together set.
But i'm wondering if there is a better form of preparation that live live users know about. I guess if some other people that used live for live occasions could share what they do, prior to, and during the performance.

See heres the thing, I'm not so much into the drum+bass/triphop kinda stuff. I play piano and guitar in my sets and i sing as well. its more of a newage-y kinda rock that i play. so its tough.

If your still reading then your probably very confused by now. I guess all i really wanted to say is this...

USE: Traveling/performing
STYLE: newage-y rock
SETUP: Laptop, Axiom 61, EMU 1616, Guitar
REASON FOR THIS POST: Would like tips preparation and performance.

Thats says it a lot better i think. Ok, thanks guy for any input :)

1. yup... just make sure the als files go with it and you're all set

2. do you mean, making a performance on the fly? instead of doing it all out in arrangement view? i warp things live, my mp3 collection is huge and i don't always have time to warp things ahead of time. i only preprogram items that have me playing live in them or that would be tough to sync on the fly

i play piano live too... although i do it in downtempo-industrial stuff and then in my housier sets. i load multiple sets ahead of time and then switch between the two :)

hope that was some help

maybe i'm doing it wrong but when i copy over the als file for a set and open it on another comp all the samples are missing. I can see where they are supposed to be in the set but their offline.

I know that i can go into the project folder, find all the samples and copy over to a folder on the other comp but cant live do that for me?

maybe i'm just being lazy.

1) check out 'save set self contained' in the file menu. it'll save the .als and all the asmples in one place for you.

2) do you know you can drag and drop your warped mp3's, midi files, whatever into folders in the browser on the left? this'll create a little file that means you can drag and drop that session track (including any effects/instruments on it) back from the file browser when you need it instead of having everything already in the session before you play.
