sound card confusion/mixing full length tracks
sound card confusion/mixing full length tracks
using live with a quattro usb.
i have the master routed to 1/2 and prelisten to 3/4. 1/2 is cabled to line 1 on my mixer and 3/4 to line 2.
can anyone suggest a better set up for mixing full length tracks since this set up is a liittle cumbersome.
i am thinking it would be good to have track 1 in live routing to line 1 on the mixer and track 2 rounting to line 2 then i can just use the mixer fader to transition. if i do this i will have to lose stereo and do with mono?!?!
am i missing something? is there an easier way to mix two tracks?
thanks as always.

hi j4nyc
is there any reason why you wouldn't mix them internally in Live?
that is have both tracks going out of the one master output, and then assigning each track a crossfader channel (the A B buttons at the underneath the session view track mixer) and moving the crossfader from side to side to mix the new tracks in?

In that case, why not treat Live almost as if it's two conventional decks?
Forget about setting up pre-listening in Live and just send some tracks to outputs 1/2 and others to outputs 3/4. While tracks that go to 1/2 are playing you can use the DJ mixer to prelisten to anything on 3/4, you can then use the DJ mixer cross fader to bring them in and prelisten to anything on 1/2. Obviously you can dynamically assign anything to 1/2 or 3/4 in Live, so you needn't have tracks permamently assigned to either output.
Hope that makes sense. Though it's probably not that dissimilar to what you're doing already...

"send some tracks to outputs 1/2 and others to outputs 3/4."
that's exactly what i want to do except that in live's preferences it will only let me assign 1/2 or 3/4 to the master out.

i don't quite understand this. how do i dynamically assign anything i want to 1/2 or 3/4?
thanks again...

True - but you're not limited to only sending things to the master out! Make sure you have "In / Out" ticked on the view menu, then at the bottom of each track (session view) you'll see the word "Master". Click on this and you can change it to "Output 3/4" (the exact wording will depend on your soundcard).j4nyc wrote:"send some tracks to outputs 1/2 and others to outputs 3/4."

When I say you can do it dynamically, I mean you can change this setting whenever you like during a performance.
Hope that helps.
