Using external effects with Live

Post by I.AM.AN.EXIT » Mon Mar 27, 2006 11:53 am

Hey

Is there anyone using external effects with live?

Here's my situation -

I've had an alesis microverb for years. I set it up last night so I could use it within live. I'm using a firewire 410 and an external mixing desk. The external mixing desk does not have sends or returns. Here's how I routed it:

Output channels in live/firewire 1&2 as the master outputs and 3&4 as secondary outputs. 3&4 are routed to the inputs on the reverb and then from there into a channel on the mixing desk. I have two options to put the external reverb onto track within live - I can either send that particular track to channels 3&4 rather than the master, or I can set one of the return channels in live to 3&4 and then use the sends on any of the tracks within live. Either way works fine and I'm getting good results.

However, when I wish to render or resample the tracks, I am not getting the reverb recorded too, which is obvious as it is an external effect.

Question:Is my only option to record the reverbed tracks back in individually, which is how I record my external synths, or is there any easier way of recording the entire track including the external reverb within live.

Sorry if this is little elementary but I have not worked with external effects or send/returns before.

I guess your soundcard has inputs too, so why don't you try to patch the output of the effect in one (stereo) input of your soundcars and record the signal?
You can use track delay to compensate the latency

What do you mean by resampling the output? I have the same problem. Verb comes in on an audio track with monitoring set to ON but it does not render unless I record it separately, WHICH SUCKS !!
