MIDI catastrophe

Post by cranberry » Sat Feb 03, 2007 8:41 pm

I'm new to Live. Don't know what I'm doing yet.

I can't get MIDI to route to my computer from my
controller. I've got Live 5.2 on Mac OS X(2.0GHz
Macbook). I'm using a Yamaha Motif ES 7 as my
controller device and I've it got routed via MIDI to
my interface (TASCAM US-144). Live recognizes my
interface and I'm sporadically even able to receive
and record MIDI data from my Motif. Problem is I
can't hear anything. I drop in instruments/beats from
Simpler/Impulse and there is no audio whatsoever.
I've fiddled with all the options and still can't get
it to work.

any help would be appreciated!

did you turn on the "record" button of the midi track after dropping in the instruments? either turn on the "record" button, or set the monitor option from "auto" to "in"....

also, make sure in your preferences, the "track" of your midi input device is turned on. if the motif is sending midi data, there's a tiny little square on the TOP RIGHT corner of the screen that should flash every time you press a key.

these are just basic stuff and maybe you've tried them all already. just want to make sure. :D

also, make sure your Motif is set to transmit MIDI. hope this helps
