! I can't believe he did Proud Mary - next to that the Foo Fighters song seemed just as natural as Purple Rain, haha.

he was great, finally a performer realizes that halftime at the bowl is the ultimate bar band gig (play some covers, tear it up).

(best show i've ever seen: prince late nite at china club in nyc after show at MSG, he played for hours, all sorts of songs, unreal.)

I was thinking how happy I was that I wasn't the sound engineer for that show. Oh my God how hard that must've been just to not have shit blow up. Props to Prince for reinstituting my interest in Superbowl half time shows. The last few have been abyssmal.

Last time I saw him live he had Maceo Parker on board. It was pretty close to the time that Ray Charles passed on and they did Georgia. I had tears in my eyes. I have yet to see someone pull of a show as smoothly and powerfully as Prince. He's been my number one influence since I was about 10.

We had a projector screen set up for the bowl so I got to watch it on a 15' screen. Damn. What a show. BTW was the lightning in the beginning CG or was it real?

I'm sure he does this in other towns, but when Prince rolls into Dallas, he does like a super long 3-4 hour show, and then he has an afterparty at some grimy warehouse in South Dallas and he plays another 6 hours. It's sick. Someone remind him he's not 20 anymore :)

People sleep on his guitar playing b/c he's such a great songwriter and singer but if all he did was play guitar he'd be one of the greatest ever.

purple driving rain

Post by Teon » Tue Feb 06, 2007 1:30 am

The way prince enjoyed and leaned into the rain was as an artist realizes a new discovery...he played with eyes closed at times, the rain driving him into a stormy frenzy. There arent many like him, maybe hendrix was there that night.

I am in total awe. Prince channels the stars and sings their music with complete abandonment. He inhabits a place that most of us are lucky to get a glimpse of on rare occasion, from a great distance, with a thick fog between us and "it." If you can't feel the entire universe in his music well, you must be distracted by the dancers.
