FireWire ports

Post by djZen » Mon Feb 05, 2007 8:10 pm

Ok yall...gotta question.....I'm gettin a firewire interface...and believe I need a Firewire external hard drive to avoid latency slowdown issues, right?

So heres the deal the macbook I got has a single firewire port...is there a splitter/extension to make 2 or 3 Firewire ports out of the 1? Does this degrade the signal from the main port?

What is the ideal setup with regards to firewire drives and interfaces out of one laptop?

thank you!

Normal the audio cards and the hard drives have 2 firewire ports.
So from your macbook firewire to your audio card and from the audio card to the hard drive.

Yes, I think that what DJ Vakis said is the normal way. Daisy-chaining them together.

I would suggest putting the sound card at the end of the chain and the hard drive in the middle. It worked better for me anyway.

some people (including myself) reported losing data on their seagate ext drives when going lappy>motu ultralite>seagate hd

they may have fixed that problem by now (they being motu) but i havent had time to look into it.

all my data that i lost was a backup so i was good to go.

just my 2 cents.
