sound on sound live looping?

Post by tony moore » Sat Jan 27, 2007 1:21 pm

i've searched the forums but can't seem to find this topic covered...

i'm a bassist and have used various external pedals (currently a line 6 dl4) to build loops via the 'sound on sound' method. i wanted to be able to build my loops in stereo and also synch to beats from i was building in logic or garageband. a friend told me about ableton live and i had a copy that came with pro tools le and i am really digging it! but i can't seem to figure out how to build sound on sound loops like you would with an instrument using external effects like my dl4 or an echoplex digital pro, etc. i understand i'll need a midi pedal to send messages to live, but i first wanted to figure out if live could do this.

so, can anyone school me on sound on sound live looping?

any other suggestions?

thanks!

tony

well, live doesn't do it "sound on sound" style. You'll actually have your loops on separate tracks. Live does make it fairly easy to do this if you have some sort of midi foot pedal with as many switches as possible. you assign the switches to record arm and clip launch for individual tracks and then have at it.

I'm sure there are other resources on this forum for live looping, a bunch of folks here do it.

oh, and if you want a sound on sound looper in live, you can check out the freeware "musolomo" plug in.

Second that. Mobis is an awsome program, and free! Just started using Mobius in Ableton Live, and they go very good together. Fiddled around in Plouge Bidule first, but I couldn't get the volume of the loops and the original sound balanced enogh. Launched Live and and everything was peachy! Check out mobius at www.zonemobius.com...!

GLoop is still in Beta mode on this site:

It's not perfect, but it has handy stuff (like MIDI sync!).
