6.0.3 Bug; value info disappears in chaineditor

Post by Poster » Sun Jan 14, 2007 10:32 pm

Really easy to reproduce..

- create a rack with 6 or more chains..
- scroll down so you cannot see the first chain..
- now edit something in the Key, Vel or Chain zone..
doesn't really matter which one..

you now see that while you drag/adjust a zone range,
the value numbers disappear..

this only happens when you scroll in the chainlist and the top chain is not visible..

Yeah, it happens in Sampler's zone edit window too. If you have a large number of samples, and you have to scroll, you lose the note number.

I reported it, and I guess they're working on it.

I am unable to reproduce this problem. I have scrolled to the bottom of a rack with many chains and when I adjust any of the ranges the numbers or note names are displayed. Can you give more detailed steps on what is needed to reproduce this?

Thanks

hi Nick..
make sure that when you scroll down you cannot see the first (or more) chains..
try it with at least 6 chains, but use more to be sure..

in short; it will only happen when there are chains invisable at the top (chain 1,2,3, etc)..

Yes that is what I have done. I create an audio effect rack with 8 chains and scrolled to the last chain so chain 1 is no longer visible. Then I adjusted the range of the last chain's chain selector and the numbers were displayed. I tried this in 6.0.1 and our latest beta. Can you see anything wrong with what I'm doing?

the only difference I see is that I use 6.0.3
I've just emailed you a screengrab movie so that you can see how it should appear..

Thanks for taking the time to make the movie. I seem to be doing exactly the same thing you were so this is a bit strange. The only thing that is obviously different is that you are using Mac OS X and I'm using Windows. I will try again on the Mac and let you know if I can reproduce it. Also could you tell me exactly which version of Live were you using (check in the Help/About Live... menu).

Thanks again,

I just tried on Mac OS X and couldn't reproduce it there either. Does the problem go away if you scoll to the first chain? I'm just wondering if it is at all related to the scrolling and number of chains - it might be something else altogether.

Another possibility is that it could be a skin bug. That is the numbers are drawn but in white and so don't show up on the white background. What skin are you using? You can check this in Options/Preferences/Look and Feel.

if the first chain is visible the bug does not appear..

I have managed to reproduce it all of a sudden! I wasn't doing anything different to before but then it just started happenning. I will look into it and let you know when it is fixed.

I have only managed to reproduce it in 6.0.3. All other versions don't seem to exhibit this behavior. Haven't tracked down the cause of it yet though.
