Live 7 ???

Post by jazzmik » Wed Feb 07, 2007 11:59 pm

Quick question...

I've been playing with the 6.0.3 demo and like it. Think i want to purchase it.

I'm new to the forum and Live ... not sure when 6 was released and what the normal release pattern is for new versions.

I use SX3 currently so there's not a rush to get it if 7 is on the way. But if we're talking about another year before a major upgrade i want to go ahead and get it now.

thanks

I love Live 6 and of course don't expect Live 7... but I wouldn't mind getting more information on what the Ableton team on their product. Their newsletter-emails are pretty useless. I don't care how many awards they win- they are preaching to the choir. I BOUGHT their product! Tell me when Live 6.1 is coming or maybe a hint at a new feature or two. (working in software development I know that isn't likely to happen).

Jasinski I agree.

Ableton are very secretive about their development. It would be nice to know what they have in mind for Live 7.

Then again, stuff does tend to leak out around July.

So lads, what do you EXPECT to see in Live 7?

Im not asking what you want, thats what the wishlist is for. But is there a feature which is inevitable? Something which has kept coming up in the wishlist??

I expect recording of automation in session view, a different colour area to the right in Arrangement view [at long last], track folders, and improved rack control, perhaps an improvement to Impulse, and possibly cheaper price for Operator.

I fully expect there to be a slicer in Live 7.
Mac, Mpc, and a Microphone

Thanks for the Slicer Abe.

1. I expect a new "Pay for" Multi velocity level all singing all dancing drum sampler instrument, possibly called "Impact". Why? because Sampler is intentionally crippled to not allow proper choke groups needed for realistic drum samples. I can't think of any reason for leaving out something this essential unless they want to sell us this functionality in another product, hope I'm wrong on this one and they include choke groups in the next Sampler update (and Battery import!).

2. Some way of comping vocals in lanes ala Cubase, why? becuase it's essential if Ableton is to REALLY be the "All in one" solution they claim it already is in their advertising.

3.VST3 support, and hence

4. Sidechaining

I'd expect the automapping to be expanded to all access to more parameters (I understand there was a greater range in one of the betas?). Hopefully some work'll be done on the actual workflow for creating racks, it still feels a little "beta" to me. In particular I'd like if you could easily combine tracks with different instruments, it'd make creating performances much quicker and straight forward.
