I'm not talking compress as with compression. I am talking space saving wise. Do you have your harddrives ticked to compress files. So your files are compressed before loading into ableton? i.e. wavs, aiff, loops? Try decompressing them all. With compress files it's just to save space, but when you're working with music, or videos, or photos. You don't want them compressed. You need the files to be ready to be loaded right then. Sometimes with the clicking and popping it's gotta take an extra step to decompress your files. So another process is going. Too many processes along with plugin and live 6 running you'll get your clicks and pops. That's why you shouldn't have you MSN going and IE, and whatever program you're not using at the moment.

Like I said I'm not sure how mac operate. I'm not sure how anything operates... I just know that with each processes going your using up ram and processing power. The less processing power you have the less you have to process data from ableton or anything cpu heavy.

Ableton decodes all compressed files before playback and stores them as .wavs

I could be wrong, but from what I've been told the higher the buffer is set the more your card or soundsource have to work to compensate. You can correct me if I'm wrong.

So for me this problem doesn't happen straight away, it's only after about half an hour does it become a problem. Normally it starts when i enlarge or zoom in on a track.

Then I hear a click or little pop and then it's there to stay and gets worse the more I use it.

The strange thing is i won't have added any extra plugs etc so the CPU load should be relatively the same.

I have had the same noise in ProTools recently and heard it when listening to audio of the net.

I am going to replace my MBOX 2 and see what happens.

I really don't want to go down the old complete re install road... but I feel it coming.

Good luck, any news on whats causing this holla back!

I live now for 2 weeks with these problems and I would like to repeat my setup and my problems:

- mac powerbook G4 2.16 2GB ram
- live 6.0.3.
- audio ether from external LaCie D2 Firewire (7200 rpm), formatted and defragmentated a few days ago,
- or from internal disk, defragmentated a few days ago.
- in live 5.2.2. everything works fine
- in live 6.0.3. there are nasty clicks every other bar, always on the "1",
no matter which tempo, no matter which disk, as soon as I load a live-set,
even when I load a new live set
- no 3rd parties plugs, no nothing
- I'm playing just o n e s i n g l e loop
- I'm playing aiff 24bit files

I guess it's a software problem...others?

thanks.

Hello is it just me or does anyone else feel that abletons support isn't as good as it used to be. I remember getting replies to my support emails the same day, sometimes within twenty minutes..

This is definitely not the case now - how long are other people waiting?

Ableton please don't lose sight of what made you so popular in the first place, good service/support, well priced & STABLE products, and not trying to cash in on users by bringing out unnecessary versions (live 6 ) that don't really offer much extra & are buggy as hell when you use it.

Maybe if they hadn't released this buggy product then support team would have more time to deal with customers????

Just a thought...

@ Jip: I think we understood your message, I answered in your first thread. Again, we are the same, just the user base grows, and we are growing the team as well. No need to post the same thing over and over, you are being listened to. thanks.

for the pops and clicks, other users have reported that disabling WIFI cards solved their problems, so the first avice would be to disable all hardware you don't use for music, just to see if there is a conflict in your computer.

Could ableton give us a little fair perspective and tell us when we can possibly maybe expect an update that will fix all the bugs? Would be really appreciated.

Same thing here, clicks & pops, with external M-Audio card.
Just heard that some friends of mine solved that with some software for CPU usage control - apparently, laptops can lower CPU usage due to energy save. It can be fixed (turned off) on most laptops (it's called SpeedStep, or SmartCPU), or can be regulated with these ones:
http://www.bay-wolf.com/speedstep.htm
http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html

It didn't solved my pops though. BTW, everyone I know that is using Live 6 and have ext card, has the same problem...
Come on guys, solve it!!!
PS. Just to mention, everything worked perfectly with Live 5!!!

Have you checked your soundcards? You might have interference between the two. Mine did that for some reason, so I just disabled the other soundcard (MMX). I use a M-Audio Fast Track USB.

Hope this helps!

Also run a search for SpeedSwitch for all you Windows-ers. I run that and it helps keep things smooth.
