Vocals in tracks (vocalists)

Post by tech » Sun Feb 11, 2007 4:01 pm

Im intrested in building a intro track for a trance set & wondered how you go about putting vocals in a track do you write the tune first then pass it to a vocalist for them to put their own mark on it ??

Im only a starter at the minute but i always aim as high as possible because if you dont you never get their i,ve managed to pull off some good gigs so far & my next goal is to hold my own night with some of my own music etc........

Intros are a great idea and an excellent way to set the mood for your set.

I would suggest writing a script for you vocalist. Record them and then build your intro around the words. At least that's how I do it.

maybe you could find someone into trance that's a vocalist and would like to collaborate with you. or maybe write a bunch of patterns or loops that you'd like done with a human voice then bring in a serious vocalist to record some loops to sample and edit later. maybe take out an ad on craigslist and/or your local music zine and see what kind of responses you get. hell, maybe you could several talented people interested and utilize several different vocalists.

but to answer your original question, vocals almost always come last in my recording sessions. the vocalists i work with either are given a finished piece of music to write lyrics and vocal lines over or sometimes they'll come in with a melody or set of lyrics that they'd like to work with and develop. it all really depends upon what type of working relationship, how well you bounce ideas off one another and whatnot.

put a mic on front of them, hit record and go. drop the vocal parts in later as you like.
