Someone who thinks he knows all music produced with this software is an asshole who thinks is omnipresent. Look at you, and your lame name... looser.
I aint no dj, been a musician for 15 years, and live keep me inspiring to do my shit without needing someone else. i can compose, play the keys, the chords, and the beats. So who are you to say that? probably nobody, I don't even know what i'm doing wasting time debating with such a fuzzy child.
go dump your angy on your boyfriend or whatnot. and never, never think you know everything. that's the main step to become a lousy musician. I think you are:)
all the best with the cassete.

I'm a guitarist and bass player that can also distinguish black keys from white ones.
I used to play guitar in a group, we wrote our songs, most of them were mine. When we quit a big emptiness was swallowing my heart. I still had ideas, music in my head. I like to compose music in the old way track by track.
When I met Live almost 2 years ago, I suddenly got a creative boost. New songs were flowing one after the other I could experiment create, trash, recall..It was Live Session environment. I began thinking to music in a different way thanks to Live. Decided to buy it. Since then I never stopped making music. At the beginning when I made my first steps into this forums I met people different from me, with different musical tastes, but everybody has been helpful and still is.
To the poster I say that exposing such rudeness is out of context. If it's true that Live was born for DJs now it isn't so. There are many people here that use Live to make music one track at the time that take advantage of Live technology to reach new horizons, beside people that sample sounds and create complex loop patterns with subtle variation and great groove. Let them use what they like. If you can't take advantage of Live, sell it, that's all. There's no need to fill these pages with anger. There's too much stupid anger in the world. This won't stop it.

Please try to limit any sort of reasonable response to 3 lines or less, you are interfering with the fanboy flamers.realtrance wrote:Silly conversation, but honestly here's a coupla points to ponder. I've studied music, classical music, for many years. I've been an accomplished classical pianist. I've spent more time and passion with electronic music more recently, and love the breadth of what is possible.
I can enjoy an excellent guitar performance. I can also be amazed at the pretty plausible guitar melody I gently typed out on my computer keyboard using a softsynth and sequencer, as well.
I'm totally put off by internet "mine's bigger than yours" disputes so I won't share, but suffice it to say, I can now, with a softsynth, and a computer keyboard, do something I couldn't do with a guitar without spending a lot of time practicing.
Is this a good thing, or a bad thing? All depends on how you look at it. If I'm just enjoying myself, and don't have time or want to study guitar, great! It's a fun little pleasure. If it's what I'd need to do to provide a melodic accompaniment in a recording, and it sounded fine, and nobody was the worse for wear, and it took me an hour instead of three weeks dealing with an expensive, moody guitarist to do the job, great! Why should anyone sweat that?
The only bad thing is the risk I'd get lazy and remain ignorant about the gestural and performative aspects of playing a real guitar, not to mention the physical technique, and ear, involved. OTOH maybe something like this might lead another person, younger and with more time, to think about picking up the guitar alongside his or her softsynth.
What Herbie Hancock said 30 years ago still holds true today: the machine is just another instrument; it's only as good, or as bad, as the person using it. It doesn't do anything by itself.
There's a certain level of encoded popular music style that is so EASY now, that basically, it's no longer interesting, as far as music-making goes. What this does is bore everyone with this base level of competence, and hunger for something more.
It wasn't any different, really, in late-19th-century Vienna, when people were sick of waltzes. Everyone could write and perform a waltz, everyone did; it was the techno/dance music of its time. The exhaustion of musical forms it represented led to significant revolutions in musical style, following. Some of the greatest new music came out of post-waltz Vienna.
That could always happen again; it's up to you, playing with Fronobulax in Reaktor, or something.

I like what Lofa had to say - does Teknoguitar play tekno with a guitar, like show up to his gigs with a guitar and play tekno music with it - that'd be cool actually
but I'd like to hear some of his music he makes without Ableton -
that'll be the day right?
unfortunately talent can make music with anything - sounds like teknoguitar tried and failed - sad to because it's the moment you give up that things change...
oh well

i think i know what the word DELUSIONAL means. Music is technology based, all art is technology based. Name me a peice of art that could be done without technology? (barring shitty conceptual art like taking a shit and wiping it on a dogs nipples)
All we have to be careful of is the day when we actually do press a button and its all done for us , in which case i dont think many people here would use such technology. I dont think spending hours searching for a sample from an old record or looking through a collection of sample cd's is a pointless excercise. I dont normally use that many pre done samples, but if i find one that fits with a peice of music i am writing then i use it. Its choice that creates art, not technique.
You could be the best muscian in the world technically, but if you make bad creative choises your going to be a rubbish composer. and vice versa. Live is an instrument, the more you use it the quicker you get, the quicker you get then the more you can put into your compositions. I dojnt agree with these people who chop and change DAW's every year. Its like learning a whole new instrument again and leaving the old one to gather dust.
I'm not justifying myslef to you by the way, I am simply trying to contort your viewpoint. If youre not having fun writing music with live then so be it, but if your selling it because all the "cool" kids have it then thats just plain wrong.

I generally agree with your post but WTF are you talking about in the bit I quoted?Emissary wrote: Music is technology based, all art is technology based. Name me a peice of art that could be done without technology?
Painting & sculpture are art and don't require any sort of technology.
Unless you are calling brushes and paint technology....

Actually, prior to oil paints, egg tempera was commonly used. It was fast drying, couldn't be manipulated after application and required tremendous skill to get frescos, etc, completed. Then Van Eyck and the oil paint revolution came along and made it much easier to create, mix and manipulate with paint after application and allowed all sorts of new effects. Of course, many of the old egg tempera guys scoffed at the new technology. Then there was the industrial revolution that brought a whole pallette of new colours to the French impressionists, etc, etc. It's all technology but familiarity obscures this fact.compositeone wrote:I generally agree with your post but WTF are you talking about in the bit I quoted?Emissary wrote: Music is technology based, all art is technology based. Didn't read all the stuff before but I thought I'd add that bit into the equation.

I invented coffee
indeed i am, they are a basic form of technology but they are technology none the less. Once man picked up a stick and used it to fight or open a clam shell then technology was on its way. So truly the only art that you can create that isnt technology based is either verbal or some kind of bodily function. Thats why so many weirdos think that spreading their own poo on a donkey while urinating into there artistic partners mouth is considered art. but i say they are silly billys.compositeone wrote:I generally agree with your post but WTF are you talking about in the bit I quoted?Emissary wrote: Music is technology based, all art is technology based.
