Problems with Return tracks

Hey everyone. I really want to be able to feed signal from my return track into another return track or into itself. I assumed that it would just work, but it doesn't.
I am able to send signal to my return track from normal audio tracks (the send knobs have the orange highlight around them when I turn them up), but I can't use the sends in my return tracks (the send knobs in the return track highlight white). Does anybody have any ideas? I've checked the manual and there isn't any explanation.

Right-click on the sends > Enable Send.

You can save the default status of the sends to your Template song, if you wish.
