Hello,
I have the weirdest problem. I recently upgraded the old Matrox G400 in the studio computer to an ATI Radeon 9800pro so I could get DVI to a new flat panel. Everything seemed to work just fine... until the next day (read, after power was turned off).
Now, Live snaps, crackles and pops like crazy when (it seems) there's moving graphics around - ie level meters moving and such. The problem is much worse when holding down a slider (eg volume) and moving it around, like it's the GUI that's making noise. It even appears when just monitoring an input. And here's the kicker - it's ONLY in Live. Wavelab, Cubase SX3 and others work without a hitch.
Ok, I thought the RME HDSP (+ Multiface) had a conflict with the ati card, i tried switching PCI slot for the RME. The RME was again detected and had its drivers installed. Problem GONE. Until the next day. Back again. Same deal with uninstalling the graphics card (software). Uninstall->Reboot->Detect->Install Drivers->Working->Power off for a while->Not working. On What the dickens is going on here? Any clues, please? My next step would be to buy a new graphics card, but should I skip ATI? Is there a general problem? Any assistance would be much appreciated. Thanks. /Björn
System: Asus A8V AGP+PCI S939, Athlon64 3000+, ATI Radeon 9800pro, RME Hammerfall DSP + Multiface, XFX Raid3 card. Latest drivers for the RME and ATI (Catalyst 7.1). Latest BIOS on ASUS (rev 28).
ATI + RME + Live = Problem?
solved
So, I got a nVidia card instead - problem persisted albeit to a much lesser degree. No fun at all. However, I finally got rid of the crackles by changing the bios setting "Plug and play O/S installed" to NO. Apparently windows xp did a botch job of allocating the resources for the sound and graphics card. Now the motherboard does the job, and I'm a happy camper. Just thought I'd share if anyone got the same issue.
