Access Virus TI & Audio Channels

Just got an Access Virus TI POLAR and using it with USB only. It's a fantastic bit of kit but I got a query with eh audio channels.

I loaded the new TI Os v2 today as well.

When I load the VST up with a few patches I then want to add Audio channels an set them up with Audio In from the patch number (a bit like in reverse when you add MIDI channels and assign them to patch numbers)

I only see USB1 L+R and USB L+R in other words only two Audio channels I can assign to!!!!!!!!!!!

How do I setup Audio channels to each patch in the VST?

Any help would be REALLY appreciated

You can't, the TI doesn't work that way. Think of the USB cable as nothing more than mimicing two of the hardware outs. Hi-Speed USB doesn't have enough bandwidth to handle 16 channels of audio.

- load up the VST with up to 16 patches of virus goodness and when I done with the tune

- manually output each channel to an audio track

- then add effects etc. to the audio tracks and then finally Render to Disk?

If so, isn't there a quicker way? What's the best work flow?

Well I can't tell you what the best work flow is for you. Personally I don't even use MIDI with Virus Control, I route it directly to a new audio track and overdub all my parts one by one as audio files.

But yes, if you want to have VST effects on each seperate part in in Virus Control, you'd need to render them as audio files first one by one (in real time no less), and then go back and add your effects. I wouldn't recommend adding the effects as you render, because you won't be able to hear how those new effects effective affect other tracks' effects But it's possible to do it this way if you really wanted to.

I appreciate alliteration always accomodating the answer.

I am still saving up for the desktop. I think that I will always wonder why they didn't go with firewire? Maybe because they were concerned that so many people use firewire audio cards? USB seems like a strange choice in a way.

They have publicly stated that firewire and USB2 was just too much money the time for them to develop. There were already audio packages for USB transfers available they could leverage, and if they would have went with the other two options, it would have raised the price of the Virus dramatically. I don't know the specifics, that's just what they passed on. Obviously they would have loved to go that route, but it just wasn't feasible at the time.

Personally, I have to agree with you and everyone else though, it really should have been firewire on a synth of this caliber. Oh well, maybe the TI2

hi theprodigy,

freeze the virus track and then right click and flatten it and its redy for cooking.

Virus Control does not support freezing, as that occurs faster than real-time, and there's no way to tell a hardware synth to generate it's sound 'faster' than real time. Remember the plug in is just a front end for the actual synth engine in the hardware, it doesn't actually generate the sounds.

Hi,

There is a way to get more audio channels from your Virus TI. When using Virus Control through USB you do only get two stereo channels to work with, however that is only the limit of the USB cable. You can still connect the 3 stereo outputs from the back of your Virus straight to any avaliable inputs on an audio interface. The M-Audio FireWire 1814 works perfect for me!

When you load up Virus Control just go to the "Common" section and set the main output for that particular patch to either OUT 1+2, OUT 3+4, or OUT 5+6.

That Gives you 5 stereo channels to work with!!
Much better for pre-mixing your sounds, compression, EQ, etc..

Load Midi tracks and assign the outputs to the virus as usual, then load the Audio tracks and assign their inputs to the inputs on the interface you connected the virus to, and bingo, you virus now has 5 outputs!!

I bought a M-Audio Delta 1010LT and did as you said however, also routed 1/2 out to the Input of the Polar so now I can also route any audio into the Polar and use it's effects / filter etc. as well

...Unfortunetely, I in Monitor hell at the moment with wierd delay when I arm a track but I'm sure it's me learning as I go along and will sus it soon.

If I configure any tracks in virus control to use the synths physical outputs rather than usb then i get huge latency problems, I cant find away of using the virus control unless the output is set to usb. can anyone help???

to fix this, just turn the monitor on the channel that you are recording to "off" or turn the channel "number" off. (turn the channel off.)

i think that's the problem... or i just did'nt understand.
