PLEASE HELP: Hickups when playing midi keyboard and....
Anyone experiencing this?
I have been experiencing this since version 4. It's so annoying and it's making me desperate.
When I play a midi instrument with an external keyboard then sometimes (just sometimes) the playhead jumps ahead a few beats. This also happens sometimes when I press the turn on/off switch of a track. The bad thing is that I cannot make this behaviour repeat. It just happens and then stays away for a few hours. It also happens so quickly that I can never see what is really going on. I think the cpu indicator moves to 150% for a split second during this behaviour.
Because I'm playing with a live band, synced to a click (also coming from live) this behaviour makes Live almost useless. Basically I can only load songs and press play, cause any fiddling from my end has the risk of the playhead jumping forward and confusing the band....and basically putting the performance at risk.
I'm using version 6.0.3 on a Powerbook 1.67Mhz. Running OSX 10.4.8. RME Multiface. Novation Remote SL.
I've tried different powerbooks, clean installs, different audiointerfaces... no luck.
grtz...

Hi nodisko, i like your name a lot good for a stage name
As a live user I suggest you give up playing with a keyboard. Live isnt realy the best software at recording in real time from a keyboard. You should use the new method of selling the keyboard and drawing the notes in manually with the pencil if you ask around you will find the majority of people work like this
its much more gratifying and much more boffinish and remember as a live user you mus alwayst strive be different from other daw users at all costs and always defend even the most obvious bugs with a workaround. The recording of midi in live is basically a big bug.
hope i helped

HA HA HA
thanks.
I must add that I'm not recording with the keyboard. I'm only using the keyboard to play some licks LIVE on stage. (by arming the track or turning monitoring to auto). But I guess bugs-wise there is no difference.
I'm seriously considering switching to LOGIC and give up the extra features that Live can add to a live-show.

i have the same "random stuttering" effect when firing clips during a set (session view). i'm using live v6 on winXP on a sony vaio with the first RME multiface, and the problem seems to have become a lot worse with version 6.
i have tried everything from the usual tips (defrag/system cleanup/moreRAM/switch off all network devices/optimize set for fast read from HD)
to more exotic things (switch off 3Dgraphics card/off write combining/off hardware acceleration) - it has not become better. still starts glitching after about 30min into a live set. it's annyoing - really makes me want to use something reliable like a bass guitar instead! haha.
apparently there are no problems with the new RME fireface...??
can this be? (i have heard of the same problems with MOTU and MAudio too...)
i presume it hasn't got much to do with midi, although i remember live 3.0 to be a very stable version, used with the first RME.
maybe i will have to go back to v3 for live performances? a shame really...
still will be using 6 for homework...
i know that many people out there are experiencing problems with glitches in their sets (i hear them!!! lol) and i would very much appreciate if you would speak up if you found a solution. thanks.

For all PCI card users on Windows XP (like the old RME cardbus solution for laptops), "PCI latency tool" is what you need.dizzib wrote:
I use the pci latency tool (google it) to give the soundcard max priority, and I also use prio.exe (again google it) to set live process priority to high or realtime. Touch wood this is fixed now since it was driving me nuts!!
Andy.
A pci latency value of 64 for all audio services, and a value of 248 for everything else like network cards and graphics etc. seems to work fine for me right now.... hope it's going to stay that way. Thanks, Andy!
Well in a mac you can not do that kind of thing as pci-latency is fixed.
What worries me the most is that ABLETON apparantly is ignoring this stuttering problem because they say it's not reproduce-able. Well the past few weeks it happened so often that I'm sure I can reproduce it when they watch over my shoulder.
Ableton Live was once made for LIVE performance. I'm affraid that's the only thing where you can not use it for these days....

Well then, make a step by step post to tell them how it is reproducable.nodisko wrote:Well the past few weeks it happened so often that I'm sure I can reproduce it when they watch over my shoulder.
If you're so sure you can nail it down, then stop making empty threats about moving to Logic and help to fix this bug.
Make a video to illustrate the problem or whatever.
And make sure you have more then 512mb ram.
