More detail

Post by makoto » Sat Jan 27, 2007 9:21 am

Hi

I could get detail.

ZERO8 has 111 FX program which differs from ZERO4. ZERO4 has 8 types insert FX in each 4CH and single master loop sampler and master/send FX. Also one of FX program in delay category, Electribe's Mod delay program(ES-1 or EMX/ESX) is used in ZERO4.

Both can also control external MIDI instruments via MIDI connection and can control external hardware instruments by the master function.

It can chain the other ZERO8 via Firewire. If it has two, CH will be increased to 16? I will check.

ZERO8 supports many MIDI controlls CC which like XY Pad's On/Off. A moduler part in both of ZERO series can be removed and changed the other MIDI controllers.

ZERO8 can be a 19" rack-mount.

On the right side of the push Encorder and Encorder push switch can be assigned different MIDI CC and it has 4(A-D) user banks which can have different MIDI assign 8 Encorders+8 buttons(Push Encorder) and XY controller. You can use this as 4 different user banks (A - D) and you can control different software's controls with putting favorite name for the Encorders and buttons. following user banks (A - D) can be stored in ZERO8.

Parameter names

Control: Controller name
MIDI CH.: Specifies the output destination MIDI channel.
TYPE: Specifies the type of MIDI message that will be transmitted (CC or Note number).
No.: Indicates the number of the message specified by TYPE.
Min: Specifies the minimum value set by the knob etc., if you’ve assigned a CC. If you’ve assigned a Note, this field is not shown.

Max: Specifies the maximum value set by the knob etc., if you’ve assigned a CC. If you’ve assigned a Note, this specifies the velocity value.

Behavior: Momentary = The specified action will occur only while you’re holding down the switch. Toggle = The specified action will alternate each time you press the switch.

* Behavior can be specified only for switches.
Name: If the ZERO8 is connected, you can rename each item for Control A–D. You can view the
assigned names in the display of the actual mixer. The available characters are the alphabet (A–Z, a–z), numerals (0–9), and spaces. You can use up to eight characters.

I/O Assign

Popup window (click? to access)
Click one of the ? symbols shown on the graphic of the mixer, and a popup window will appear,
allowing you to set the parameter.

Mixer channel assignments
In this graphic representation, for each mixer channel, you can select from where in the mixer signal
chain the FireWire output will be sent—Pre EQ, Pre Fader, or Post Fader
PreEQ: Assigns the pre-EQ sound to the FireWire output.
PreFader: Assigns the post-EQ pre-fader sound to the FireWire output.
PostFader: Assigns the post-fader sound to the FireWire output.

Bus assignments
In addition to sending the individual mixer channels, you can also assign the various bus signals to
the FireWire outputs. You cannot assign multiple signals to the same FireWire output. For example, if
you set mixer channel 3 to send its Pre Fader signal to FireWire outputs 3L + 3R, and then set the EXT2
SEND Bus to FireWire outputs 3L + 3R, mixer channel 3 will be unassigned.
MASTER: Assigns the sound from MASTER to the FireWire output.
BUS A: Assigns the sound from CROSS BUS A to the FireWire output.
BUS B: Assigns the sound from CROSS BUS B to the FireWire output.

Man I am getting so hyped about these controllers. The Zero8 is the best damn thing I've seen in a loooong while. I'd get one over the Xone 3D anyday.

The total integration of the same control surface for both audio and midi is simply fantastic.

Yep yep...

I checked the size of the zero8...

Its 45 cm wide and 36 cm tall... takes 8 units from a rack...

Not too bad...

My feeling on the 8 vs. the 3D is that they are different beasts from a workflow perspective. As a DJ, I'm attracted to the interface/workflow of the 3D. As a producer who would play original material via Live's original intention, I would gravitate towards the Korg mixer.

The are different enough, imo, to warrant a serious look into how you like to organize and playback your mix. I don't think one is better than the other (like how some MIDI only interfaces are right for one person's way of working vs. another person's way of working).

.02,

BTW, isn't it a great time to be a DJ/producer? So many options. I LOVE it.

That Zero8 looks so damn nice. It would be a dream to work with I think.
Just what I need: Sound card, mixer, Kaoss Pad, midi controller. It's still a lot of money though.

Machinate how much do you think it would cost for us if we buy it through thomann in Germany? Sounds like it will be too expensive for us to buy it here in Denmark. 2266 euro is crazy...

Hey :)

Well, as a comparison Thomann charges 10749 kroner for the Radias (their standard price, apparently) - it had a suggested retail price in Denmark of 15990 kroner, meaning the Thomann price is roughly 67 percent of danish retail - that makes the 2266 Euro a more manageable 1518 Euro - about 11300 kroner.
mbp 2.66, osx 10.6.8, 8GB ram.

I just hope the zero8 is sturdy, and not plasticy. Looks awesome so far...

it is a touch bit plasticky - but not in a totally offputting way. The 3D feels more sturdy, but its not close behind. Seems like it should hold up pretty well as long as one isn't banging on it rockstar style...

they're using reaktor patches. as far as i can tell, the 2 laptops, and the stuff for the video is all synced via open sound control, the zero 8 is transmitting midi to reaktor.

pretty cool kit...
